Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.
Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Magician Mitch Williams who is an international award winning magician and sleight of hand artist, an inspirational speaker, and an authority on creativity, personal transformation, and peak performance. His newly released book, A Call to Magic – the Artful Science of Transforming Self and World, reflects his belief that we all have untapped “magic” within us.
D is for Dream. What is your dream?
My dream is to inspire people with fun, uplifting, thoughtful programs combining magic with encouraging themes such as creativity, peak performance, and/or personal transformation. My mission is to spread the word, in fun, uplifting ways, that YOU have untapped magic within you that can help you to be all that you can be.
E is for Encourage. What encourages you?
I’m encouraged by inspiration of all kinds from a variety of sources, and by seeing people respond to my work by being uplifted and inspired.
R is for Resource. What resource do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?
I’m an expert entertainer, performing artist, and speaker (if I do say so myself!), which allows me to present my message in amazing, often awe inspiring, and very memorable ways. I’ve also spent the majority of my life studying the principles of top achievers and self transformation, and have developed a philosophy of using “real magic” for success in life. My experience performing magic also provides crucial lessons in the power of the experience of wonder, and of our ability to transform our perceptions of the world around us.
R is for Ready. When did you know you were ready for what you are doing now?
Several years ago, I realized that my diverse interests in magic and performing; self help, peak performance, and personal development; artistic expression and creativity; the martial arts and other physical movement disciplines; and eastern philosophies were all aspects of one unified personal passion, purpose, and mission: that of sharing the experience of MAGIC with others in a variety of ways. Over time I have integrated these skills and interests into a form that I can share to inspire and encourage others.
I is for Individual. Can you name at least one individual that others should learn more about and why?
I think people should learn more about Albert Einstein. He’s known mainly as a scientist and for having developed the theory of Relativity. But he was really much more. He was a true philosopher, a world citizen, a humanitarian, and gave a great deal of thought to not only the nature of the universe, but also mankind’s place within it. His writings have inspired me greatly, and I quote him regularly in my work.
C is for Continue. When things look bleak or not optimistic what makes you want to continue?
When I’m discouraged, the biggest factor that keeps me moving is realizing the positive impact that I can have on others, even when I don’t realize it.
K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for other experts and entrepreneurs?
First, keeping an open mind and an attitude of curious exploration and discovery. Our perceptions of the world around us are never completely accurate, and they can undergo dramatic transformations. Our beliefs about the world are based on those imperfect perceptions, and when we think they reflect absolute reality, we’re in big trouble. We need to be ever open to learning and growing and expanding our perspective. Secondly, the power of the experience of wonder. When we find ourselves in awe–of anything–it is the source of all inspiration, aspiration, and discovery.
