Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Darrell Boysaw who is the Founder of Middle Man Out Entertainment. Also known to the music world as Pappa Doc Luv, an Artist, Music Creator and Entrepreneur from Central Illinois in the Twin Cities of Champaign-Urbana who moved to Sacramento in Northern California in the 90’s to pursue a football scholarship opportunity.

As Boysaw continues his musical endeavors he knows full well the importance of making sure there is food on the table and that his ends always meet so he has service ventures like Boysaw’s Moving Delivery and Transport and the Boysaw’s Jump Houses that are available for the public to support in the Sacramento area.

The beat that inspires PDL Hip Hop Heart has been influenced over the years by artists such as Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, BDP, Rakim,Redman,Dr Dre, Outcast, Dougie Fresh, Slick Rick, and the Grand MFFF.  A great moment in his career was when he  opened up for Jamie Fox at the Crest Theatre in Downtown Sacramento.

Middle Man Out Entertainment continues to thrive and stay alive because he still feels the love when the crowd understands and feels and responds to what he’s laying down.

Darrell Boysaw AKA Poppa Doc Luv is never shy with his words and leaves these words of wisdom for others to live by “Never wait on someone too long .. you’ll Never finish your music projects. I’m not going for the banana in the tailpipe, neither should anyone else. Don’t look up to anyone, just respect what they actions do.”

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

Making music that’s inspirational and appreciated. My goal is for my music to help me travel the world and create a great legacy.

E is for Education. What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I attended Delta Junior College and Sacramento State University and didn’t finish but I learned the concept of Middle Man Out and graduated with my own school of throught because I had too and I don’t like to wait. To tell you the truth what little education I have I use it to question all the BS I was taught in the US school system.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I think quick so that helps me be creative on the spot, not afraid to entertain large or small crowds, decent connections to help finish music that I mostly have conceived.  I have had other businesses already working for me so that helps me not have to depend on others which helps me be able to focus on my goals and making music for souls.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

When I invested my own money and realized most will not invest in me like me.

I is for Individual. Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

Gene Hicks because he’s reshaping the fitness world with Hip Hop Fit. His impact on people has always been enormous, he is also the my main producer on my album which is one of the the best ones I have created thus far. He is a giver.

C is for Challenges. What challenges have you had to overcome?

Being immature, waiting on someone else to finish my project Middle Man Out

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Middle Man Out every chance you can with everything you can.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Jonathan Rivers who has as a BS in Marketing from Auburn University and MBA from the University of Phoenix. Mr. Rivers is married to his wife Erica and they have four children; Kingston, Ezra Adah and Titus. He is also an author, motivational speaker, professional development consultant and youth coach and mentor.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My dream is to travel around the world with the purpose of transforming mindsets through speaking, encouraging and enlightening. I plan to create a program that sends young men and women to leadership camps to build their acumen and leadership skills, which they will bring back to the community and share with their peers.

E is for Education. What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I have my BS in Marketing from Auburn University and my MBA from the University of Phoenix. I consistently speak about the principles I learned in college such as the product life cycle and human capital. I also discuss my experiences of discovering my purpose, overcoming adversity and building relationships.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I consider myself unique because of my versatility. I am a powerful and passionate storyteller with knowledge and experience because of my background as a former collegiate athlete, high school educator, motivational speaker and believer in Christ.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready to run my own speaking and consulting business when I was laid off from the University of Phoenix in 2014. I applied for at least 40 jobs and got told no every single time. I then knew I wasn’t being told no to anyone’s organization; I was being told yes to my purpose!

I is for Individual. Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

Darren Palmer is my publisher, one of my mentors and a driven individual. He is the owner of his own self publishing company (selfpublish-N-30days) and he has helped me step into a new level of greatness. His vision and preciseness regarding his professional direction is inspiring and beneficial to anyone.

C is for Challenges. What challenges have you had to overcome?

I was abandoned by my father at birth and raised by a single mother. I was sexually abused as a child and involved in multiple life threatening car accidents. There was a time I only had $30 in my checking account but I did not allow those circumstances to make me a victim because I chose to allow them to make me a victor.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

1. Do not compere yourself to anyone else! God made each of us in his mold, but unique in our own way. Everyone has a purpose and it is not predicated on being just like the next person. Work to be better than you were yesterday, rather than being better than someone else.

2. Be intentional about everything in your life! Too many people live life on cruise control with a laissez faire attitude because they don’t care what may transpire. If you don’t intentionally create your road to success, you are creating your road to mediocrity.

3. Learn, Learn, Learn! Continue to research what it is that you want to pursue in life. Do not allow the opportunity to learn be stripped because of arrogance or your perception of a specific source. Life is a teaching tool and it needs to be observed.

I was a former hockey wife for 9 years and this is what has made this journey easy for me. I moved twice a year during trades, minor leagues to the pros and back.  Having to move to Canada every summer during the off season with two children in tow gives me the inside track to identify with athletes, families and especially their significant other with constant life changes in every scenario.

E is for Experience: What expertise do you bring to the table that makes your vision able?

We have a team of experts that we built relationships with over the past 20 years.  Rather it be real estate brokers, shipping or insurance to risk management we know and trust our team members with our clients.

L is for Learn. After you started this venture what do you know now that you didn’t know before?

Building clientele isn’t just about your expertise. It’s about having a relationship of trust which leads to another client. This takes time to formulate especially working with celebrities and their families.

brainanO is for Opportunity. Where do see yourself through this business in years to come and are there other untap markets in the relocation industry?

I recently started developing “Salgado Home Collection” and my goal is to launch our candle collection for the 2016 Holiday season and help homecollectionsupport Brain Aneurysms awareness by giving a percentage of sales to a charity.  After the launch … honesty my vision has no end. With passion and drive the Salgado Home Collection will lead where God wants it to be.

C is for Caution. What are obstacles that people who have to move face and how does your company provide solutions to their problems?

In life we all have obstacles rather it be a divided family, a loss of a family member,  joining two families in one home, divorce, financial woes, job relocation, life insurance or health insurance and it always something and somewhere down the line that we all have to identify with one or more of these scenarios.

My services provide comfort for their situation that can or could be over whelming at that time of their move.  I guess I kind of look at it as “Every thing will be ok” and there is no better feeling. Example: When of one of my client has insurance needs I refer them to Richard Salgado of www.coastaladvisorsllc.com who has a credible name in name in the industry “Big Daddy” that most know and feel confident with his risk management services. Our network also extends to our clients when they have housing or development needs and we connect them with Elite Real Estate Brokers.

A is Aware. If someone has never moved before and especially not coast to coast what are some other things that they need to be aware of before contacting a company that does what you do?

Anytime you’re doing business with a company you are not familiar with there will always be some sort of risk factor. The first question I would ask is if the company is insured and bonded. If your dealing with an estate, I would ask how much their company is bonded for to make sure it can cover the value of your move and assets. If hiring outside sources to come into your home to organize, make sure they to are insured and bonded. Injuries do happen, things break and you don’t want to find yourself in a situation that could lead you to a lawsuit.

If you’re not buying and renting when you are moving into your next home make sure you always research who you’re renting from. Do background work on the home to make sure the property is not under foreclosure or prior law suits with other tenants. If you’re working with a management company that is locating a rental for you, it’s not usually their responsibility to research public records and investigate past history. The other advice would be to research your community, value of homes and schools.

T is Time. How long does it normally take to help someone move coast to coast and why is this the right time to be in business?

Each client has different needs and services required so to put a time line on a job is almost impossible. We treat our clients like family and a job is never done until they feel the comfort with our service. This is the main reason why I love to book in advance and work with exclusive clientele throughout the sports industry. Each subcontractor signs a nondisclosure contract to assure our clients privacy

E is for Excellence. How important is greatness and what do you want others to say once you have their move out if the way?

I want my clients to say, ummmm nothing and to just see them with a honest pure smile is good enough for me. It’s a great feeling to see a happy home and know I was a part of the process.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with C.J. Daniels who has penned three novels, as well as a short story within the Lost Planets anthology alongside Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Dick and Edgar Allan Poe. He is the founder of Off the Beaten Path Press, which he first created for Evolution’s End, then opened up to others looking for a publisher offering freedom to publish under a label while collecting their net royalties.

D is for Dream: What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My goal is to become a writer of thought provoking literature. I wanted to create the stories that I grew up enjoying, but with a bit of my own DNA inserted in it.

E is for Education: What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I have a degree in communications and a minor in English. As a writer I find use for both as an asset in finding ways to communicate my stories in ways that readers can not only enjoy as fiction, but also write in a way that can be appreciated for its style.

R is for Resources: What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I think the more than 50 years of genre exposure and an almost youthful love of superheroes gives me a leg up.

R is for Ready: When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I think I was about ten years old when I dug out an ancient typewriter and started crafting my first story- about a moonbase under attack by aliens.

I is for Individual: Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

Gordon Bean. I met Gordon during my time with the New England Horror Writers Association. He’s a heck of a horror writer, and a friend.

C is for Challenges: What challenges have you had to overcome?

I’m a cancer survivor. I had stage 3 colon cancer after my first book came out in 2002. After that, it was balancing work with family and my own health commitments.

K is for Keys: What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

In a line from one of my favorite movies, Galaxy Quest. “Never give up. Never surrender.”

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

Just the fact that if you become a writer, it takes patience to hone your skills. No one becomes a bestselling writer overnight. In addition to that, you need a thick skin if you want to succeed. This is not a business that compliments you easily or often, and as I said before, if you want something like this enough, and you have something that you know people want to read about, then keep at it.
