Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.
Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Author Illustrator Linda M. Brandt who landed her first professional job illustrating political cartoons at the age of nineteen. With a background in both formal and personal training, Linda continues to illustrate a totally unique style of color and design.
Linda’s work has hung in Europe and is in the homes of private collectors, including several Ohio political figures, the late President Ronald Reagan, and past Ohio Governor, Senator George Voinovich.
Having recently undergone brain surgery for a very rare and serious tumor, Linda experienced a near-death period after contracting spinal meningitis and was in hospital critical care for nearly two months. While receiving an additional MRI, her predeceased son, Scottie was sent to “bring her home.”
At that time, Linda cried, “No, No. I have too many paintings to paint!” Needless to say, her work was not done and Linda was returned to the present.
Linda began painting once more after months of rehabilitation, learning to walk, drive again, and by the prayers and love of her family and friends. Most of all, Linda believes in the Grace of God.
Collectors of Linda M. Brandt’s work believe it is even more inspirational and dramatic than before as she shares her “triumph over tragedy” through the gift of art.
Linda M Brandt, presents a wide portfolio of both spiritual and secular paintings. She has recently published the first in a series of books about Henry the Tulip Bulb and his friends. Her theme of “Developing an Attitude of Gratitude” has struck a cord with parents wanting their children to look past problems and look forward to opportunity.
I believe that … D is for also Daring…Daring to Dream when the world didn’t give me any hope! I dared to dream of walking when I couldn’t walk, driving when I couldn’t drive, painting again when I’d always painted.
E is for Eternal Joy that “fired up” my Internals…”fire in the belly”….the prayers of my family and friends who held me up when I couldn’t stand on my own.
R is for the resources of never, ever wanting to give up…on anything!
R is for knowing that I was always an artist and always loved by my family and friends and most of all loved by God.
I is believing that everyone should get to know Christ Jesus…He is full of wisdom and love and His Abundance knows no end!
C is for courage…..the courage to keep fighting and stand in faith, when everything else fails us.
K is the Key of Gratitude…being thankful for all the little things. Recognizing the miracle of everything.
Is there anything else that we did not cover that you would like to mention?
When I learned to love myself, because the Great Creator did and does, then I allowed that great miracle of life to enter my world and change it to something very wonderful! Just ten years ago my oldest son was killed by a drunk driver and then two years later, I was diagnosed with a very serious brain tumor.
After a 10 1/2 hour surgery, I developed spinal meningitis and had a death experience whereby my son was with me. That experience changed my life forever! It took nearly 3 years to learn to walk (I crawled) & my husband left me, but when I learned to love and be thankful for what I had been left, my world changed….in a very miraculous way!
