DERRICK Interview with Inspirational Jewel Dr. Virginia LeBlanc

October 15, 2018

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Dr. Virginia LeBlanc who is a Speaker, singer, coach, consultant, educator and is the bestselling author of Love the Skin YOU’RE In: How to Conquer Life through Divergent Thinking. A highly sought-after expert with a breadth of experience across industries, she employs knowledge and know-how through her company Defining Paths to transform client circumstances from the inside out.

D is for Dream. What is your dream and what have you achieved?

My dreams are ever changing as I check off the list and have a revelation in my purpose. Perhaps the biggest “dreams” I have achieved to date are:

1) living and loving from the inside out;

2) becoming a published author; and

3) becoming a leader, influencer, and transformer of lives and entities for the better.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

My faith, the abundant availability of grace, and the power of love encourage me. Also, knowing that I can and do make a difference on a daily basis gives me encouragement.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I am a multi-disciplined subject matter expert who has mastered the art of convergence in know-how transference across diverse industries through divergent thinking.

R is for Ready? When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

Are we ever truly ready? As we move in our purpose, we become ready and equipped every day. You will not know until you test the waters. I made the decision to step out in faith when a host of circumstances converged pointing me in that direction, and I could no longer ignore that calling.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

This answer will always be Jesus. Walking after his example and teachings keep, correct, ground, and sustain me in love, empowerment, and peace that transcends my own understanding. When you understand how to love unconditionally, sacrifice for a greater good, and reach others through servant leadership, your perspective changes, and all of a sudden, life makes sense and is worth living.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

Most importantly, I never fail, only gain lessons learned; it’s a mindset. My faith and the spirit within me mute fear of failure and activates/emboldens the fight in me.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Keys to success for aspiring entrepreneurs and leaders: Tune into YOUR channel; manage YOUR reality; and think divergently. Follow YOUR path to purpose, do what you were meant to do, and always be you. It may take time to figure it out, but you will figure it out, if you keep trying. Stay in the ring and ALWAYS get up from the mat!

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

A holistic approach to life is a must including the exercising of faith. Let go of fear and jump. You will find the net. It may be a little or a lot lower than you thought but you will find it. If nothing else, and faith scares you, it is the law of attraction.

DERRICK Interview with Personal Trainer Carolyn Moos

August 4, 2014

CarolynMoosEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Carolyn Moos who is a Personal Trainer that works with elite and pro athletes, student-athletes, general public, mothers to be and those with goals to change their overall lifestyle choices. Carolyn’s website  www.fitforlivinglife.com shares somes of her services that include Skype yoga, online nutrition log analysis (phone, text and e-mail), menu planning, and basketball skill development. Carolyn played for USA Basketball, Stanford (B. A. Sociology, Minor Communications), FIBA/WNBA and completed my Masters at USC in Communication Management, (where my masters thesis focused on the power of preventative health, and lifestyle related diseases (type II diabetes, heart disease and more).

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My goals reflect my desire to help everyone lead healthier lifestyles. Athletes, parents, at-risk patients, pregnant mothers, general population and more. Everyone can benefit from integrating nutrition; strategic exercise and embracing consistent sleep patterns as well as an overall healthful lifestyle. I also speak on not drinking and choices teens make early on. I also want to have a family of my own and impact them directly with healthful habits for a lifetime. I enjoy being a good mentor and promoting health, fitness and wellness.

E is for Education. What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I attended a private high school and have a B.A. from Stanford in Sociology with a minor in Communications and a Masters from USC in Health Communication Management. I am also a certified personal trainer with CEC’s in many areas that pertain to nutrition, specified training (yoga, golf conditioning specialist, sport specific training) and overall wellness. I use the combination of my B.A. and M.A. in all the work I do as an Athletic Director, Marketing Specialist, Teacher, Coach and personal trainer. I also value my real life experiences traveling with USA Basketball, living and playing overseas professionally and being exposed to many different cultures and learning experiences.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

The combination of real life experiences that are rare and valuable (USA Basketball, traveling and living overseas), playing professional basketball, becoming a certified trainer and lifestyle management mentor, coaching youth of all ages and stages, teaching yoga at 6’5’’, promoting and embracing not drinking, always eating clean and healthful and practicing that which I teach others. I embrace lifestyle choices strongly and feel they are directly linked to longevity, vitality and overall mental and physical performance.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

As you are doing what you are doing, each experience lends to a gained skill set if you really dive in and apply yourself. I am always hungry to learn something new and it is important to be coachable and always open to advice. I don’t think it is a matter of a single moment or realization, as you know all along the way what you are successfully learning and how you are growing in tangible ways. This can be measured in quantitative and qualitative ways, which ultimately exemplifies growth and the aspect of always being ready for what is next in life. I also embrace change, growth and progress, as we are every evolving. I also embrace having consistent norms and standards by which we adhere to as well. This foundation comes with us everywhere we go.

I is for Individual. Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

If it were applicable to all individuals and their pertinent responses, I would say get to know someone’s family. Where you came from is a big part of who they become. If you admire someone, take a look at how they grew up and who influenced them every step of the way. This includes lower school, middle school and prior to college. Amazing teachers, youth mentors, along with family members set the initial core and standard for who we become. I always ask someone who has influenced them the most and who they have learned from the most. The answer to this often is the best teacher, as if we are hungry to learn and grow, we must surround ourselves with the best teachers. I enjoy mentoring and teaching youth and adults alike, hence why I utilize Skype, e-mail and phone to offer my support with nutrition, yoga, basketball skill development and overall wellness. Who we are and what we do is shaped by many people in our network, not just one. I would start with family though as this truly is the foundation from which we grow.

C is for Challenges. What challenges have you had to overcome?

Change and adjusting my life vision/plan at a given time period in my life was one of the more challenging experiences (emotionally and mentally). I didn’t pause however and I just worked on the next steps.  I do believe God has a larger plan for us and sometimes we can be initially thrown, as our thoughts on how pieces will come together may look different. I have faith and believe that we do our part diligently and the rest will occur as it is meant to be. I am a person that likes knowing how A leads to B and so on. When we are faced with adversity or changes in our life, we have to re-adjust our macro level thinking and re-formulate our micro-level steps that will ultimately lead to a new vision. It is important in life to embrace this journey and even if we have to re-write our strategy on how to get to our goals, have faith and find comfort in doing all that is ours to do. Nutrition, fitness and overall healthful lifestyle choices have also been very helpful in getting me through as well. They have always been a part of my foundation since I was born and I am thankful for this.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Stay true to your passions. Find what makes you unique and valuable to the world and provide it to them with excitement and all of your heart. I believe we are all here for a reason and when you find that reason, you find your purpose. I also embrace innovation and creativity. Think of the best ways to do what you love that brings value in the most efficient and consistent mediums to those that turn to you. Whether it is a service or a product, put yourself in your clients’ shoes and know what would make them appreciate everything you do.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

Be yourself and stay true to your passions. Be strong in your beliefs and stay true to who you are in this world.

DERRICK Interview with The Happy Hour Effect Author Kristen K. Brown

November 26, 2012

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Kristen K. Brown who is a certified Holistic Health Coach, speaker, widow mom and bestselling author of The Happy Hour Effect: 12 Secrets to Minimize Stress and Maximize Life (Goodman Beck, Nov 2012) and The Best Worst Thing (Balboa Press/Hay House May 2011). She has been featured in the media across the country on TV, radio, print and online. Kristen works with individuals, corporations and celebrities to help them minimize stress and maximize life.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My dream is to be a positive role model for my daughter by using my writing and coaching to help people to minimize stress and maximize life. If I could write books and speak to groups for the rest of my life I would be a happy camper!

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

I am encouraged when I hear people’s personal stories – the things people have endured that they have overcome that have made them stronger, their joys, their memories – it all encourages me to keep doing what I’m doing to make the world a better place for my daughter.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I’ve experienced extreme personal and professional stress AND been educated on multiple ways to manage it. As a young widow mom, corporate America veteran, certified Holistic Health Coach and a Master’s certificate holder in Integral Theory, I am not just some doctor who decided to take on stress. I am a real person who has experienced major stress and found a way to spin it personally and professionally.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

About two years after my husband died, I realized my true calling is to be a health educator through my writing. It took me that long to be able to step back and see what I had gone through and what had worked. Now five years later, I’m thriving, happy and living a fantastic life.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

I know so many amazing people who are helping people really embrace life and making the world a better place. One who always jumps out is Theresa Rose. She is The HoopWoman, speaker, author and bringer of the mojo. She is by far one of the most entertaining and inspiring speakers I have ever heard and will be taking the TEDx stage in December. You can’t help but smile when you see her in action.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

I went through something awful when my young, healthy husband died of a heart attack in his sleep when our daughter was just a baby. If I could survive that, I can survive anything. And I know that my daughter needs her mom to be a positive person and a role model – that’s really what drives every decision I make.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Get yourself educated on what it takes to be successful. Take classes, go to seminars, read books, follow thought leaders – you can’t exist in a vacuum. And you can’t just sit back and think that just because you know what you’re talking about, people will flock to you. It takes a lot of time, money, persistence and patience to build a following of readers, fans, buyers – people who love your stuff. And you MUST brand and market yourself. If you don’t know how to do that, either figure it out through getting educated or hire someone to make it happen. And yes – it’s expensive to hire help – but a good investment well-timed will be much more impactful than piddling around and not taking your work seriously.

Positive people who are purpose-driven.  People who are smart and courageous. I love to read motivational books too.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I “get” people and can help them connect to the right people. I have been told that I “break things” down and give people courage to try new things to build their dreams. I have a writing/teaching gift too.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I don’t think that way. I don’t analyze that…I just do. I guess I’m always in a state of preparation, learning and education. I set goals and go for it.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

They should really get to know the voice of God, the Holy Spirit. The Master teacher. Knowing HIM trumps everything. Knowing the voice of God will lead you to prosperity and give you peace and accentuate your wisdom.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

Knowing that there are others who have had it harder than me that have made. I know I can too. I read tons of biographies. I love the John H. Johnson story.

Just one good idea – implemented the right way  – at the right time -with the right connections – can equal millions of dollars.

DERRICK Interview with Coach Lorraine Esposito

October 9, 2012

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Lorraine Esposito who is a professional life and fitness coach and nationally recognized author of The Peacemaker Parent. She has been featured in broadcast, radio, print, and online media. Lorraine is also a coach training instructor and mentor coach for the world’s largest coach training organization.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

a. My dream is to create a generation of people who can think for themselves and have the courage to do something about it.

b. My goal is to empower all people with greater personal influence.

c. I have achieved powerful influence personally which in turn has created leadership and courage in others, most importantly my two teenage sons.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

a. I’m encouraged by mistakes. Each time I goof, or my kids goof, I’m encouraged to find the perfection in the situation and to leverage the perfection for even greater wisdom and growth.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

a. I am a unique resource. I’ve lived so many different lives, i.e. poor and obese in the mid-west, corporate manager in the north east, fitness expert all over, author, mother, teacher, mentor, and three-time business owner. I’ve learned AND experienced so many different things that I share common ground and understanding with practically everyone. This broad base of experience allows me to connect tools, information, and insight to the individuals that I serve.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

a. I knew I was ready for my current venture because I had proven my ideas successful in a variety of ways. Personal victory wasn’t enough to give me the confidence to suggest and advise others, so I sought and received support from professionals. The blessings and support given early in my first shaky steps were essential to my courage to live into my passion.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

a. There are two individuals I highly recommend people take time to explore: one is living and the other is not.

i. My living recommended person is Becky Blanton. The journey of her life is filled with the highest highs and the lowest lows. Becky’s life is a living demonstration of the power of courage, resiliency, and faith.

ii. The other person I highly recommend people get acquainted with is Leonardo da Vinci—not for his legacy of art (though amazing and wonderful) but for his 7 principles of living a meaningful life. His genius is most profoundly experienced by understanding his mind.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

a. Continuing with my passion is not an option for me. I have identified the most important reason for living my life in pursuit of leadership: Without the ability to think for themselves, the next generation of leaders will destroy the planet. With clarity like that, falling down isn’t even noticed.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

a. The most important key is the most difficult to find. The key is YOU—no one else can do what you do in the way it needs to be done. Often I’ll suggest to my players (as a coach I have players not clients) that they endorse their greatest weakness. By offering even the aspects of yourself that you wish to hide, you open a world of possibilities and opportunities. Our greatest strengths are found in our humanity.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

a. One last thing to consider is that every adult is a role model for the kids that watch. Whether you are a parent, teacher, athletic coach, religious leader, or just an everyday guy or gal, there are kids watching what you do. Your deeds speak volumes and contribute to the creation of our planet’s legacy. Please, choose your actions wisely.

DERRICK Interview with Dr. Paulette Kouffman Sherman

September 5, 2012

Dr. Paulette Kouffman Sherman - Author, Dating Coach, Life Coach, Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist, Relationship Coach, Speaker/Presenter - New York, NYEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepeneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Dr. Paulette Kouffman Sherman who is a licensed psychologist, owner of My Dating School, author of Dating from the Inside Out, published by Atria Books, a regular speaker at The Learning Annex and is the NY Love Examiner. She’s been an expert on television like the CBS Early Show & the AM Northwest Early Show and a radio guest on the Curtis Sliwa show.

D is  for Dream:  What is your dream or what have you achieved?

I have achieved many of my dreams.  I wanted to marry my soulmate, have a boy and a girl and buy an apartment buy the beach.  I did that.  I also wanted to be a published writer and my first book was published by Simon and Schuster.  I wanted to help people and do work that I love and I’ve accomplished this as a psychologist, coach and author.

E is for Encouragement: What encourages you?

It encourages me to know that if we all share our gifts in a context of love that we can make this world a better place.  It also encourages me to have teachers that I love around me.  I made two collages with authors and healers that inspire me and have them framed in my house.

R is for Resource:  What resources do you have that makes you unique or stand out?

I am a psychologist and dating coach who writes, speaks and teaches.  I also went to the High School of Performing Arts in NYC for voice.   I am always learning, attending workshops and reading groups.  I’m creative and love to share my message in different ways.

R is for Ready: When did you realize that you were ready for what you are doing now?

I’ve always known I wanted to be a writer and speaker but after 2008 I focused on practical things with two kids and working.  Then in March of this year I learned I had breast cancer and had to undergo a lumpectomy and 8 months of chemotherapy and radiation.  I was walking on the beach and I asked my Higher Self if I’d accomplished what I was meant to do here.  The answer came back yes (for the reasons above) but I got a clear message that I needed to publish 22 books as my legacy.  After this I became very directed and seemed to have energy to write and publish my book, ‘When Mars Women Date: How Career Women Can Love Themselves into the Relationship of their Dreams,’ even during the chemo. I also started my own publishing house called Parachute Jump Publishing with the motto ‘Books that Inspire You to Love More’ with the intention of a 22 book countdown.  I have 4 books so far and will also be writing one about my cancer experience soon.

I is for Individual: Name one person that others should know about and why?

My sister visited me when I was first diagnosed and she told me to call a man named Christopher Dilts that she knew in California.  He worked with angels and was a healer.  He has a website called www.askanangel.org.  I was a bit skeptical at first but I really liked him and I am a tough critic when it comes to healers.  He confirmed the spiritual purpose of my cancer and my soul ‘s mission to write and help many people (that I just mentioned).  I have loved our conversations and have found him to be wise, supportive and very on target during this challenging time.  I would hope that others who are like-minded would avail themselves of his services and support.

C is for Continue: When things look bleak, what makes you continue?

When things look bleak, I remember that we are all here for a reason and I return to my purpose.  I have told myself, ‘My mission is stronger than my cancer’ while I was going through treatments.  The love of my family and friends also keep me going and my desire to share my love and gifts in this world.  Getting messages from my Higher self helps too because these messages are always wise and empowering (unlike our super ego messages that are punitive or belittling).  It helps to know the difference and to remember to live from a place of Love.

K is for Keys: What keys to success can you leave for others?

I think that a belief in yourself, a belief in your intention and persistence, is key.  Create what you want from the inside out first.  This means that if you get rejected or things aren’t going so well ‘out there’ you remember who you are and that what you are creating matters.  If you remain in that place long-enough, you will attract people at that same frequency and will effect outer change so the outer world reflects your inner one.  Or, at least you will live your life aligned with your values and Higher self.
