RELOCATE & Stay Great: How The Salgado Home & Relocation Services Team Helps Others Move Coast to Coast and Still Continue Their Dream

October 14, 2016

salgadohomecollectionwith Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes

Fay Salgado, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fay Salgado Home had a vision that truly came to life after traveling the country with her husband Richard “Big Daddy” Salgado, speaking with countless athletes, front office people, management, entertainers and business men and women, that the need for an all-inclusive, professional relocation and organizational service became apparent. To fill that need, Fay launched Fay Salgado Home LLC and today I interview Fay through the word RELOCATE to give you a unique perspective on how to stay great when you move from state to state.

stanleycupR is for Reason: Why did you want to start a home and relocation business?

I was a former hockey wife for 9 years and this is what has made this journey easy for me. I moved twice a year during trades, minor leagues to the pros and back.  Having to move to Canada every summer during the off season with two children in tow gives me the inside track to identify with athletes, families and especially their significant other with constant life changes in every scenario.

E is for Experience: What expertise do you bring to the table that makes your vision able?

We have a team of experts that we built relationships with over the past 20 years.  Rather it be real estate brokers, shipping or insurance to risk management we know and trust our team members with our clients.

L is for Learn. After you started this venture what do you know now that you didn’t know before?

Building clientele isn’t just about your expertise. It’s about having a relationship of trust which leads to another client. This takes time to formulate especially working with celebrities and their families.

brainanO is for Opportunity. Where do see yourself through this business in years to come and are there other untap markets in the relocation industry?

I recently started developing “Salgado Home Collection” and my goal is to launch our candle collection for the 2016 Holiday season and help homecollectionsupport Brain Aneurysms awareness by giving a percentage of sales to a charity.  After the launch … honesty my vision has no end. With passion and drive the Salgado Home Collection will lead where God wants it to be.

C is for Caution. What are obstacles that people who have to move face and how does your company provide solutions to their problems?

In life we all have obstacles rather it be a divided family, a loss of a family member,  joining two families in one home, divorce, financial woes, job relocation, life insurance or health insurance and it always something and somewhere down the line that we all have to identify with one or more of these scenarios.

faybigdaddy

My services provide comfort for their situation that can or could be over whelming at that time of their move.  I guess I kind of look at it as “Every thing will be ok” and there is no better feeling. Example: When of one of my client has insurance needs I refer them to Richard Salgado of www.coastaladvisorsllc.com who has a credible name in name in the industry “Big Daddy” that most know and feel confident with his risk management services. Our network also extends to our clients when they have housing or development needs and we connect them with Elite Real Estate Brokers.

A is Aware. If someone has never moved before and especially not coast to coast what are some other things that they need to be aware of before contacting a company that does what you do?

Anytime you’re doing business with a company you are not familiar with there will always be some sort of risk factor. The first question I would ask is if the company is insured and bonded. If your dealing with an estate, I would ask how much their company is bonded for to make sure it can cover the value of your move and assets. If hiring outside sources to come into your home to organize, make sure they to are insured and bonded. Injuries do happen, things break and you don’t want to find yourself in a situation that could lead you to a lawsuit.

If you’re not buying and renting when you are moving into your next home make sure you always research who you’re renting from. Do background work on the home to make sure the property is not under foreclosure or prior law suits with other tenants. If you’re working with a management company that is locating a rental for you, it’s not usually their responsibility to research public records and investigate past history. The other advice would be to research your community, value of homes and schools.

T is Time. How long does it normally take to help someone move coast to coast and why is this the right time to be in business?

Each client has different needs and services required so to put a time line on a job is almost impossible. We treat our clients like family and a job is never done until they feel the comfort with our service. This is the main reason why I love to book in advance and work with exclusive clientele throughout the sports industry. Each subcontractor signs a nondisclosure contract to assure our clients privacy

E is for Excellence. How important is greatness and what do you want others to say once you have their move out if the way?

I want my clients to say, ummmm nothing and to just see them with a honest pure smile is good enough for me. It’s a great feeling to see a happy home and know I was a part of the process.

What else would you like to mention before we go?

Fay Salgado Home is an insured and bonded company that has clients in the NFL & NHL and for more information people can go to www.faysalgadohome.com

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with  Jonathan Bender a former NBA pro and now philanthropist and entrepreneur who serves as CEO of JB Intensive, which markets his own medical device invention—the JB Intensive Trainer therapeutic solution that generally relieves chronic knee, hip and back pain and helps athletes reach fitness or training goals.

D is for Dream. What is your Dream?

My dream is to build a great business empire and share my success and entrepreneur secrets with others to plant hope within their lives and to help guide them to their vision of success.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

Knowing that God has me in the palm of his hand and he is in the driver’s seat encourages me to move forward.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

My energy, consistency, determination and will to finish gives me an advantage when getting a job done.

R is for Ready? When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready when I answered the question of what do I want out of life, then I was forced to create the roadmap and follow it.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

Christ, because he is the beginning and the end and nothing can be done without him. He is everything!

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

Failing is how we learn , you see a failure is really a success in disguised as long as we learn something from it you should step out actually knowing what to do the next time.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

First understanding what you want at the end of the day. Second explore what makes you tick and what gifts and talents that you have. Third research someone who has what you want and lives the life that you want that is doing what you inspire to do. Fourth move right away. Things do not have to be perfect you cannot side step failure, it will always come but make sure you learn from it every time and press forward.

DERRICK Interview with Dr. Michael Wright

August 2, 2013

blogMAWMichael A. Wright earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work degree from the University of South Carolina -Columbia with research on the organizational innovation of social work schools. Wright has maintained a consultancy practice for more than 16 years. He has logged dozens of professional relationships coaching individuals and consulting with public and private entities seeking to increase capacity, conduct social research, train staff, and grow strategically.  Wright participates on a number of national committees with groups like the Council on Social Work Education. Succeed

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My dream is that communities would be built to support interrelatedness. The structures including green spaces, sidewalks, porches; the institutions including assisted living, schools, community centers, and churches; and the people including mixed income, diverse families would be intentionally modeled for self-sufficiency by neighborhood. It is a vision shared by urban planners and creative real property developers who believe in social good.

For me, goals are different though related to my dream. I know that the accomplishment of that dream depends on a multitude of factors. My GOALS focus on ensuring that I am contributing to that future. I have completed formal education. I engage authentically and intentionally with my family and community. I encourage social  entrepreneurship. I share the wealth that I currently have investing in OUR future.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

My encouragement is a rather anti-encouragement. My disappointments have led me to question, “What if I was not here-alive in this moment?” The world would be different. From that, I am encouraged to be ME  unapologetically. I am the best I can be. I speak my mind. I am responsible for the consequences. I give generously while always maintaining my priority: 1) Wife, 2) Children, 3) those who Ask, 4) the World that needs.

I am motivated to continue learning by the realization of the needs found everywhere in the world. I endeavor to be the change that I want to see. My quest is to figure out how to cover those needs sustainably. Until I figure it out, implement the solution, and view the successful results, I am not done. I am compelled to keep working on the solution.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I am a teacher. I am also a mentor. I have developed expertise as a curriculum specialist by adding a conception of the learner to the exposition of content. My training, classes, or curricula prepare for the student to ask, “What is the point?” This means that the teaching will be more relevant to the learner.

I have developed a systematic approach to mentoring I call the COACH Method. The method expands the reach of individual health and well-being into dyads (groups of two) and, eventually, into multiple groups of two or more. The result of the method is a community of authentic, healthy, active people. The method deals directly  with the challenges that are barriers to this reality like trauma, mis-education, and that nagging feeling of being
“stuck.”

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready for what I am doing now at the age of 13. The teacher for the bible group was absent one morning. I took up the lesson and, instead of reading through it like some teachers would do, I engaged the class in a discussion of the main points. I took cues from the topics they found interesting and encouraged them to share personal, relevant stories.

My next revelation of preparedness came when my wife asked me to conduct a COACH Method assessment on her. Until then, I had not realized what an impression the method was making to her as an observer. I knew, after completing her assessment, I needed to expand the theory and the practice of the method.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

Pierre Smith is my best friend. I have never asked him whether he feels that I am his best friend. Frankly, that is irrelevant.  He is an constant inspiration for me. Readers will get a chance to learn more about him from a text that I have outlined. My production schedule will have it completed around Fall 2015. His pierre-isms are a constant guide. He is a millionaire, philanthropist, husband, father, community leader, and does each one with wisdom and style.

Another person readers can learn from is Carter G. Woodson, father of Black History week. His book  Mis-education of the Negro is a must-read for scholar Black people and any individual wanting to appropriately apply knowledge in human systems. He communicates that knowing how does not result in people flocking to you for learning nor does it result in an ability to satisfy those who do come to you. Those  lessons keep me learning from scholarship, but also learning the curiousness of people as individuals.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

My “success as my only option” policy can be stated simply, but is the door to a great complexity of emotion management and perseverance. My process is to center. Sometimes, it’s a hug of my wife or one of my 3 kids. Sometimes, it’s playing a game. Sometimes, it’s calling a friend to encourage them. But, centering is remembering why I am here.

My next step is decidedly solution-focused. I ask, “How would I respond to this situation if I was where I want to be?” Usually, my response is, “I would laugh!” That lets me know that the issue is not that crucial. Other times, my response is, “I would write a sternly worded, clarifying letter to get a handle on constructing the narrative.” That is exactly what I do.

If the situation warrants step three, it is a battle for me to allow someone to choose something that is not sustainable for them-against goals they state they want to achieve. Once I ensure that I have presented all the information and options are understood, I have to breathe deeply and allow them to make the choice for themselves. I move on preparing for the consequences should they choose me to help again.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Authenticity, Forgiveness, and Action are the keys to success. There is just too much that we have been miseducated about, including our own potential to control our destiny. The re-education must be systematic, honest, and reason-based (not emotional). I am working on that book this Summer to be published late 2013 or early 2014-Deceptions, Distractions, and Disillusionment: Barriers to Your Success and Ours (published by MAWMedia Group, my company) ISBN: 978-0-9842170-8-3.

A business model is the lock. Many people have connected with what they want to do, but do not realize that sustaining that activity will require you to make money to support it long-term. A business model can be borrowed, modeled, or created, but it MUST be present if you are going to sustain.

A clear vision is also important. This includes how much money AND difference you intend to make. This keeps you from being the best service provider in the county with the fewest clients because you did not envision a growth strategy that scaled your capacity. If you just want to break even or serve a limit of 10 clients, that is your preference. Just be sure to maintain policies and procedures that support those objectives.

Lastly, I recently learned a new way of thinking about mentorship from Kerry Ann Rockquemore via National Center For Faculty Development & Diversity. I used to think about finding one mentor who could sustain my needs. Kerry Ann suggests considering the varied supports you need and creating a list of 3-5 supportive individuals for each need. This multi-mentor approach fits what I have actually been doing, and supports mental health when you actually write the list of needs and supportive individuals.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

A word of advice: Rid “right” and “wrong” from your vocabulary. These words have too long been used to justify your oppression. Instead think of your goal. Ask yourself, “Does the choice I am about to make get me closer to my goal? Does this choice ensure that I can enjoy my success over the long-term?” If the answer to both questions is YES, the choice is sustainable for you, no matter if others cannot see it or understand it. If the answer to either question is NO, the choice is unsustainable for you. Your task in life, your success is to continually make the sustainable choices.

*I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?*

Napoleon Hill… Pure and simple the man was a Inspired and Prophetic Genius. everyone should read his books, especially ‘Outwitting The Devil’.

The knowledge that you can never fail if you learn from the experience. Mistakes are normal and expected. It resets your mind to go in different directions, to think out of the box. That and the firm Knowledge that God will not steer me wrong, unless he wants me to learn from it.

*K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders? *

Always be ready to learn, from books, audio, classes, and the failures of others, whatever way you can… When your learning ends, so does your career… Trust me.

*Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?*

Only that the Creator doesn’t care what name you call him/her, or what you believe about him/her… the Creator only cares THAT you believe.

DERRICK Interview with Dr. Derek “Doc” Worley

June 11, 2013

DocWorleyEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Dr. Derek “Doc” Worley who at 46 sustained but overcame a massive stroke which left him paralyzed on one side and without the ability to talk.  However, by the sheer grace of God who in his great  wisdom, orchestrated a great team of doctors, physical, occupational  and speech therapists to “put him back together again” and as Doc says, “the greatest wife known to man”, Barbara, who made sure that we all complied and adhered to the cause.

Doc Worley received his B.S in Professional Biology from North Carolina A&T University and was awarded his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Des Moines University School of Osteopathic Medicine and
Health Sciences.  After finishing his residency program in Oakland, San Francisco and Vacaville, CA., Doc and Barbara, also a doctor, opened a medical practice in North Carolina. After a few years, Doc started
itching to speak, meet and build and Barbara heard him scratch, so she kicked him out of the warm office for the freezing grounds of sales, marketing and the speaking circuit.  It was at that time that Doc
experienced almost all types of sales known to man…from health saving accounts to burial plots, legal services to financial services, real estate sales to car sales,  in home vacuum cleaner sales to in home
cabinet refacing to in trunk and in store cellular phone sales, vitamin sales to water sales and projects sales to project funding.

Doc is not too shy or ashamed to tell you….in a humble way that he has gained from all of his experiences. Doc has recently been accepted for PhD studies in Business Administration with a concentration in International business from North Central University. Why?…because he just wants to help more. Grady, his ventriloquist partner, will leave you in stitches when he visits occasionally.  Let the fun begin!

D is for Dream. What is your Dream?

My dreams is to share joy and encouragement to the world by teaching principles of faith, perseverance and love that will penetrate doubt, discouragement and fear.

E is for Encourage. What Encourages you?

My source of encouragement is Jesus Christ.  It is through Him that I exist and have been made better.

R is for Resource. What Resource do you have that makes you unique?

Networking is the key to collaborative efforts being taken to the next level.  Shared talents encourages greater dimensions, depths and perspectives which produces greater meaning, productivity and awareness. You can win with teamwork!

R is for Ready. When did you know you were ready for what you are doing now?

I knew that I was destined to speak at an early age because I always felt the need to connect compassion and humor with substance and inspiration to ease the frustration, fears and emptiness in people.  Through the test of time with trials and tribulations, the need has become greater.

I is for Individual. Name at lease one Individual that we should learn more about and why?

Jesus Christ is my source if inspiration.  He suffered, endured and walked on water, yet he was talked about, spit on and beaten, yet he loved and never sinned.

C is for Continue. What makes you want to Continue when things don’t look optimistic?

Trials have been a great teacher for me.  They have taught me that troubles will not last forever and joy will come in the morning. I will never give up.

K is for Key. What Keys to success can you leave for others?

The keys of success are determined by your level of passion, positive attitude, moral servitude, tenacity, perseverance, focused vision and strength in God.

Is there anything else that you would like to mention?

Leadership is having the ability to follow a mission with great intensity, undying determination, acceptance of responsibility, rendering no excuses and not caring who gets the credit as long as the mission is accomplished in truth and dignity!

Visit Dr. Derek “Doc” Worley for more information.
