DERRICK Hayes Interview with Author Ron Walker

December 12, 2015

RonWalkerEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Hayes Interview is with Ron Walker who was born in Thomaston GA and raised just outside of Atlanta, GA in Clayton County. With over ten years of speaking under his belt, Ron has grown into a well trained empowerment speaker. He delivers a passionate message centered on self-motivation, overcoming obstacles and achieving goals. In order to aid others in their voyage, he has developed several books and CD projects. Projects include “I Almost Gave Up,” “It’s My Time,” “On track to the Kingdom,” “Your Best Day Today,” “The Lost Works of a Lost Soul,” “One Day at a Time,” “Passion 101” and “Dollar and a Dream: Succeed or Die Trying.” All of his projects are internationally distributed and can be found wherever you buy books or CD’s including Amazon, iTunes, Napster and Sony.

Ron has a bachelor’s degree in Theology and in Psychology. He is a licensed and ordained Christian minister and oversees Better Way Ministries, an outreach ministry specializing in motivating others to find and define their purpose.

Dream:

My dream is to simply encourage people in a way that propels them into their destiny. I simply aim to be a cog in the process, a catalyst of sorts that gets the ball rolling in the right direction. I believe in momentum, but sometimes what separates achievers from under achievers is a push in the right direction. Through my writing, speaking, ministry and even business, I aim to be that push towards purpose.

Education:RonWalkerBook

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in both Theology and Psychology. Seeing as how I’m constantly dealing with people, I use them both daily. Understanding the minds and motivations of people are key in being able to break through to them and motivate them. My formal and informal education allow me to better understand people from different backgrounds, their different obstacles in life and the different factors that influence their decisions. I mentioned in my motivational audio book, “Dollar and a Dream,” the importance of what school, church and the streets taught me and how they influence me daily. It’s important to be able to utilize all facets of education. That’s also why I make it a goal to learn something new everyday.

Resource:

I think with every person, if they can’t bring anything else to the table, they at least bring their past, their experiences and the knowledge base they have developed based on those unique experiences. I am who I am because of what I’ve been through over the years. I bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding to the table because of where I’ve come from and what I’ve been through. I was born with little, went through much and have come out in a pretty good position. No one else can tell my story like me.

Ready:

I realized I was ready around the age of nine. I started my first business back then and have developed over the years. I started writing and receiving rewards and acknowledgements for it back when I was in middle school and I started speaking and teaching in church towards the beginning of high school. I don’t think anyone knows everything about where they are going or will end up in life, but as far as being ready…I’ve been ready, but I’m constantly preparing for more as well. I’m ready and getting ready all at the same time. I’m ever expanding.

Individual:

It’s difficult for me to think of one person in my network to single out as person that others should learn more about. My friends are doing many great things in their respective industries. Justin and Akuba Dawkins are on the precipice of making great developments in the Tech world. Lyndon Batiste, Phil Daniels, Niko Villamor are doing wonders with music. Levar Norsworthy is making great strides in marketing. And there are so many more. If I had to highlight one person, I would say that my father Pastor Daniel Fagan is one to know because of his understanding of love and leadership. I believe that more of us need to understand how to love people and lead effectively.

Challenges:

As is pointed out in my new book, “I Almost Gave Up,” divorce, financial struggles, the decline of a business, the loss of a very close loved one and so many other things have been challenges I’ve had to overcome, but it’s all a part of life. We all have obstacles and challenges, but I’m a believer that for every problem there is a solution. I don’t focus as much on challenges as I focus on solutions. It’s a part of what helps me to continue to succeed.

Keys for Success:

As mentioned before, focusing on solutions instead of problems is key to success. I wrote a book not too long ago called, “It’s My Time: Stop Complaining and Start Changing.” In my opinion, it’s imperative to seek change over complaints. We can all find something to be unhappy about and we can all find something to be happy about, but the choice is ours. Never give up. Keep smiling and keep persevering. The battle isn’t given to the strong, but to the one that endures. If we keep pushing, persevering and being relentless in our efforts, eventually we will succeed. To me, true success comes when we realize that the joy is in the journey, not the destination. If we can learn to enjoy each day and appreciate the ride that life takes us on, success becomes an ever present reality.

DERRICK Interview with Internet Entrepreneur James Reynolds

June 25, 2015

JamesReynoldsEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with James Reynolds who is the founder of Veravo which consists of two search engine marketing agencies; SEO Sherpa and Click Jam. He is also the host of the Traffic Jam Podcast. James is fanatical about all things search, social and content on the web, from his blog, to Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. He is a contributor to several leading publications including Entrepreneur Magazine and mentors startup companies in his free time.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

I’m living my dream. I live in one of the world’s most inspiring cities (Dubai), travel a lot, work on a business I’m passionate about surrounded by an amazing team. None of this is by chance. I’ve focussed on designing a business that supports the lifestyle I want.

E is for Education. What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I am an art college dropout. I’m sorry to say that despite good grades at school my formal education is not that impressive, but it has never held me back.

For the past ten years I have read a lot. On average I read a book every other week, everything from out-and-out business books from authors like W. Edwards Deming and Jim Collins to self help like authors such as Anthony Robbins and Brian Tracy.

I put aside at least 30 minutes to one hour per day for learning.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

Energy and an ability to energise others. These two traits help me lead, communicate and implement faster than most.

R is for Ready. When did you realise you were ready for what you are doing now?

I think you need to know that you’ll never be truly ready. As entrepreneurs we require a certain amount of naivety and foolishness or we would never attempt anything new.

I is for Individual. Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

James Schramko. He has been a mentor to me for the past 5 years and is the smartest all round business person I know.

C is for Challenges. What challenges have you had to overcome?

Being forced out of my job, having not been paid for 3 months and being owed over $100,000 in unpaid salaries and commission. At the same time attempting to launch a business in a field I had no experience in with a mountain of credit card debt and the threat of jail if I bounced a cheque for the 2 properties I was buying.

That was back in 2010, and 5 years on I have built that business to be the number one SEO agency in it’s market and I’m free from debt and stress.

Sometimes it requires you to hit rock bottom in order to bounce back high.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Persistence. Pure and simple, success requires a lot of hard work.

Say no far more than you say yes. Only say yes to the things that are most important. As Derek Sivers would say, it is either a “hell yes” or a no!

Sales. Without sales you have no business. The most successful entrepreneurs I know are also excellent sales people.

DERRICK Interview with Baci Founder DeLisa Richards-Hawkins

February 11, 2014

DalisaHawkinsEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with DeLisa Richards-Hawkins founder and owner of Baci who was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia a small town south of Atlanta. As a young girl my interest was always in science, with biology being the field I wanted to major in. After my first year in college, and a lot of life experiences, my passion for science turned into an interest in fashion and cosmetics. The joy of redesigning a woman’s face, more specifically the lips led to the creation of “Baci” lip care products.

Dream:

My dream is to one day turn Baci into a household name. In doing so, I plan to open a beauty bar in major cities, and other locations across the nation . I dream of having a full service bar offering hair, nails, and makeup. This will give customers all they need in one stop and one price.

Education:

I graduated the Pharmacy Tech program back in 2010, but no longer work in the field. I’m looking forward to obtaining my B.A. in business entrepreneurship, I start classes in the spring.

Resources:

I think every person is unique, but what makes Baci unique is the fact that I can relate to every woman and her needs as far as lip care, and the fact that we’re affordable. What makes Baci stand out is that our products are composed of all natural ingredients, such as Shea butter, nourishing oils and waxes, and vitamin E&D, just to name a few.

BaciReady:

I knew I was ready to launch Baci when I actually paid for my first order of product. At that moment I knew things were really about to happen and it was totally up to me to see it all the way through. I was ready to finally make my dreams a reality.

Individual:

Laura Smith, my accountant and right hand girl. Laura has a background in accounting and is very knowledgeable and talented in her field. Since the start of Baci she’s been by my side every step of the way. She’s a New York native, mother of two, whose very passionate about what she does.

Challenges:

My biggest challenges were doubt and fear. I doubted my abilities to make things happen in my life and I feared failure. I had to learn that things aren’t going to happen over night and that failure is just a sign that your going in the wrong direction and need to turn around and try a different route. Once I was able to over come my two biggest obstacles I felt as if nothing or no one could stop me.

Key:

“A dream is nothing more than a dream until you put it into action and make it a reality”. Starting a business can be scary, but if its something you really want to do then don’t let fear stop you. As a upcoming business woman and entrepreneur I’ve learned that you have to invest in yourself and believe in yourself if you want to make it far in this world.
