DERRICK Interview with Running Scared Author Robert Leon Davis

September 20, 2018

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Robert Leon Davis who is the Author of Running Scared and in this book he details his former life of a young, 22 year old, cocky and arrogant police officer, who committed a crime in 1979, was arrested, skipped bail, and became known as one of America’s longest running fugitives without being apprehended; for 22 years.

The U. S. Marshal Service and FBI (interstate flight to avoid prosecution) searched for him for over two decades.

The book details how he lived a nomadic life in the woods and forest, and his travels throughout various cities.

It also details how he hunted and consume wild animals, how he dealt with the elements, as well as how he conquered loneliness.

The author eventually “voluntarily surrendered” in 2001, by then nearly 50 years of age, after what he described as a revelation. The Judge gave him no prison time, but released him on probation, after assessing that he “eventually incarcerated himself”.

The author travels the country for the last 16 years speaking to potential police candidates, churches, schools, and various organizations about crime and corruption.

Since his “surrendered” he’s been featured on The 700 Club with Pat Robertson, NPR stations nationally, Snap Judgement, various newspapers, and CBS did a special segment on his life.

Now a senior citizen over 60, and looking back over 40 years ago, he now appreciates freedom.

The author was (and still is) soo sickened by his past life, (especially dishonoring the badge), that as a token of his appreciation for forgiveness, profits from his books are donated to The St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and various women and children abuse organizations.

This book is an example to all that repentance can actually be demonstrated in a positive way. His motto is;

“Learn to forgive so that you may be forgiven”.

D is for My DEVOTION to revealing the secret tactics of bad/rogue law enforcers, who has dishonored the badge and the communities trust. Many, through my website and articles, have been reprimanded or jailed. It’s a token of my bad experiences as a bad cop.

E is to EDUCATE the common citizen, also through my book and online articles, that just like you have bad carpenters, bad auto mechanics, etc., why wouldn’t one believe there are bad cops? Every vocation had a bad worker.

R is for RESPECT. Even if a law enforcer has an issue with your dreads, your style, men wearing earring, or ladies with tattoos, he must still respect you as a human.

Oftentimes, not only law enforcers, but everyday people who don’t share your style, has already determined who you are based on their physical observation of you.

I’ve personally have had to get over this hump. Just wait until they open their mouths, and you may see something totally different.

R is for Repentance. Trust me, God already knew that you and I was not made perfect; by design. Once he brought the Messiah into the picture, there could be no other perfection. The closest that we will become perfect is through repentance. In essence, you get another chance.

I is for Information. Now a days, unlike many years ago, or in the case of people of color, you can Google all sorts of information.

You can discover things you never knew. For instance, through Google, I discovered that the light bulb didn’t, “only” come from Thomas Edison’s mind, but a black person was in the “back”. The main person behind the concept along with Edison was him!

C is for COLORS of people. Listen, the color of your skin is based on a simple pigmentation issue. It has nothing to do with your successes, or lack of successes. It’s the mind, or the thinking processes of the mind. An examination of any human mind is all grey, and only weight about the same weight across the board. It’s just grey matter. The inside is what matters.

K is for Kindness. Ever been at an appointment or other venue where children of different races are together? Notice how they gravitate towards each other?

They, at that point, don’t understand racism, bigotry, or even hate. They are naturally kind to each other. Maybe some of us should look at that hard. It’s deep.

D is for Dream. What is your Dream?

My dream is to build a great business empire and share my success and entrepreneur secrets with others to plant hope within their lives and to help guide them to their vision of success.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

Knowing that God has me in the palm of his hand and he is in the driver’s seat encourages me to move forward.

My energy, consistency, determination and will to finish gives me an advantage when getting a job done.

R is for Ready? When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready when I answered the question of what do I want out of life, then I was forced to create the roadmap and follow it.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

Christ, because he is the beginning and the end and nothing can be done without him. He is everything!

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

Failing is how we learn , you see a failure is really a success in disguised as long as we learn something from it you should step out actually knowing what to do the next time.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

First understanding what you want at the end of the day. Second explore what makes you tick and what gifts and talents that you have. Third research someone who has what you want and lives the life that you want that is doing what you inspire to do. Fourth move right away. Things do not have to be perfect you cannot side step failure, it will always come but make sure you learn from it every time and press forward.

Start Stretch N

May 18, 2012

by Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes

In High School before each practice or track meet our team would get a stretch in. Today in order for speakers and writers to perform better they have to get their Stretch N.

N by itself represents the Ndustry that you are N and the Ncome you make from it. Also represents the Ncrease it will bring to your life and the Nheritence that you will leave for your children’s children.

N+O = NO. Many times each day you are told NO. Do you settle for this answer or do you look for ways to turn NO into yes? Who can stop a positive person who is doing the right things? NO one.

N+O+W = NOW. Yesterday already happened. NOW is a new day that is NOW ready to open doors for you. Kool Moe D once asked L.L. Cool J “ How you like me NOW’? NOW you can and NOW you will.

N+O+W+H = NOW H and the H is for Home, Hope and Happiness. When doors open you have a NOW Home with Now Hope and Now Happiness.

N+O+W+H+E = NOW HE. When a man has a place to call his home, NOW HE can focus on the bright side instead of always the night side.  NOW HE has a chance to survive and NOW HE can live up to his expectations.

N+O+W+H+E+R = NOW HER. Guess what? NOW HER life is changed forever. NOW HER man waited for her. NOW HER scholarship came through. NOW HER Dad came back into her life. NOW HER younger sisters have a mentor.

N+O+W+H+E+R+E = NOW HERE. If you don’t Stretch N life you will end up NOWHERE fast. Dreams come true and all you have to do is act like a pen and tell the piece of paper that I’m NOW HERE.

If you like what you just read share it with others. NOW HERE is a chance for you to pass on something positive. Thanks for Stretch N with me.

If you go to http://www.derrickhayes.com/guest-blogging-opportunities/ I can support what you do and if you go to http://www.derrickhayes.com/article-writing/  you can support what I do.

What ADDICTION Taught Me?

February 19, 2012

by Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes

In my lifetime I have overcome ADDICTION more than once and I’m here to share what it taught me. If this Word Of Encouragement can help at least one person to even think about kicking their ADDICTION to the curb then I have done my job.

A is for Anyone. ADDICTION can happen to anyone. If you’re not careful the one thing you feel you have power over can rise like waves and over power you.

D is for Develops. One thing an addicts says is “I’m finished. I’m going to retire. Not me, no way Jose” When an ADDICT is in denial the addiction becomes even more powerful.

D is for Destroys. Anyone ADDICTED to cigarettes knows that if they don’t stop it can be fatal. Easy part is lighting up but the hard part is quitting.  I was trying to get on a plane to see my mother when she was dying. I didn’t make it in time to say goodbye while she was alive.

I is for Information. Even in your worst day ask why? Why do you feel this way? Why do you do the things you do? Why do you want to change? When I asked God why, it changed my life forever?

C is for Change. When you look in the mirror and realize you want to change go for it. Everyone is different. Some will go cold turkey and others will stay chicken. It takes 17 to 21 days for a habit to become negative or positive in your life. If you mess up for one day remember it’s just one day. Bounce back. You can do it.

T is for Transform. When your change is permanent it transforms you like in Romans 12:2 where the ways that held you in addiction no longer stand in your way.

I is for Inspire. Read stories of others who have overcome what you are going through. Turn to YouTube and watch videos of interest. Know that others are beginning to watch your turn around take place.

O is for Ongoing. Don’t plan for any days off where you say I can slip this day or that day. If you fall get up but don’t play with fire because it burns. Keep growing in your new life.

N is for No. The greatest word ever invented is No. Practice saying No. Just like others have told you no all these years use the same power to tell the negative people, places and things in your life no.

If you reading this and have an ADDICTION that is holding you back I hope that you find your way to let it go so you can move forward. Please share with others so others will not just be free but free indeed.
