The Dude That Helps St. Jude: The Richard Salgado Story

May 5, 2014

BigDaddy Presented to you by Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes

In a split second your life can change. A few months ago I was faced with a decision and that was to reach out and say hello to someone in hopes that they would respond or not say anything and never know if there ever could have been a relationship.

This story begins on January 19th, 2014 when I realized that Richard Salgado was also Facebook friends with M.J. Pedone who is the CEO of Indra Public Relations. Previously M.J. had connected me with Richard that opened the door for our Exclusive DERRICK Interview.

Once I sent “Big Daddy” as he is called in the industry a friend invite networking as they call it for me would never be the same. After we became Facebook friends I thanked him for the past interview and asked for him to share the same opportunity with his current clients and that he could also nominate others that deserve recognition for my blog Today’s Honoree.

In life you will meet many people that are connected and resourceful but not many who will share their network in the way that Richard Salgado does. A few of the many people that he has nominated for Today’s Honoree are Celebrity Handbag Designer Anzhelika Steen Olsen, Jeweler Scott Kay and Hannah Andrusky-Hilburn who is the Author of “Living the Invisible Disability.”

I wanted to tell his story and help him like he has helped me so I took time out to share the news of Who, What, Where, When and Why Richard Salgado is “The Dude That Helps St. Jude.”

Who are you? I’m the CEO of Coastal Advisors, LLC Insurance Consultants and I have been in the insurance business for over 20 years. I have clients in various backgrounds which include Sports, Television, Media, Entertainment as well as business owners and families. I work with business owners on employee benefits, health insurance and many other forms of Insurance.

What are you planning to do? I’m hosting the 3rd Annual Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic to help raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis and for the Health Humanitarian Aid Foundation to help build schools and hospitals in Ghana, Africa. Last but not least we are raising money for North Shore University Hospital, which is the hospital that saved my life when I had an Aneurysm.

Past guests of the Annual Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic have been Michael Strahan, Current Co Host of Live with Kelly and Michael, Joe Buck, Fox Sports Commentator, Actor Singer Robert Davi, Adam Schefter of ESPN and Superbowl Winning Coach Brian Billick of Baltimore Ravens.

Where and when are you going to do it? The Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic will be held at the World Famous Oheka Castle in Huntington, NY on Monday June 23rd, 2014. The Golf will be played on the Cold Spring CC which surrounds the Oheka Castle. For more information on the Oheka Castle please go to www.oheka.com.

Why are you doing it? I want to give back because I know that I’m blessed to be alive after my surgery and it feels great to be a part of a special work place. I used to be the one that helped my clients put on fund raisers, help find sponsors and raise money for their events so I took it upon myself to start my own foundation, The Big Daddy Foundation. Once I Hired Bob Broderick of RTB Media, LLC. to run my events and provide public relations we were off and running. It has been a fun ride but it also comes with alot of work. This year we decided to support St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, HHAF and North Shore Hospital.

I’m going to visit the St. Jude Hospital in June before my event with two goals in mind. The first is to visit the hospital in hopes to bring some cheer to some of the kids that are in St Jude’s Care. The second goal I have is to make a video from St. Jude to ask for support and let everyone know that they are my new benefactor.

Is there anything else that you would like to add?

I hope that everyone can attend the Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic. You can purchase a foursome, attend the VIP Celebrity Gala-Live Auction Dinner Party or just make a donation. All of these things can be done at www.bigdaddygolfclassic.com.

People can follow me on Facebook, Twitter and visit our insurance company websites at www.coastaladvisorsllc.com or www.youtube.com/bigdaddyinsures.

Thank you Derrick and I look forward to this story getting out there for everyone to read so they can support our efforts in helping the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Health Humanitarian Aid Foundation and the North Shore University Hospital.

DERRICK Interview with Worship Leader Rayna Brown

January 23, 2013

raynaEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Rayna Brown who is an anointed, energetic praise filled woman who believes “worship is what she was created to do”.  She is a worship leader, songwriter, vocal coach, speaker, directress and up and coming author born and raised in Long Island, New York.  Rayna recently released her Debut single “Stand in Worship”.

D is for Dream. What is your dream and what have you achieved?

My Dream is to see nations united in Christ through His love!  I want to see hearts connecting back to God!  I want to see healing and deliverance to every nation and I believe God has gifted me to be a soldier in the army that is rising up to build the Kingdom!

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

I’m always encouraged when I see hearts connecting to God.  When healing and deliverance is taking place is when I’m most encouraged.  I am also encouraged by worship and the Word of God.  Whenever I feel the need to replenish, my worship and His word are always a sure turn around for my thoughts and feelings.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

The number one resource I have is the anointing that equips me to do whatever God needs me to do at any given time.  I can do nothing on my own and have to completely depend on the anointing to lead me and show me what the people need at that very moment.  I also have determination and passion!  Those two elements together attract people with like hearts and minds which enable us to come together as one unit to accomplish the mission of RBM which is to connect people to the heart of God!

R is for Ready? When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready when I got tired!  When I was tired of leading, tired of singing, tired of praying, tired of fasting, tired of wondering, just plain tired.  When I arrived at the point of wanting to give up was when I realized that all of me had to be broken so that God could use me and most importantly, trust me to do what He purposed me to do.  It was at that time that God released a fresh anointing, opened doors and gave me strategy and help to do what He commissioned me to do.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

Well, I would say King James I.  Yes, I know that’s odd but hear me out.  I choose King James because I believe he is a great example of how God uses anyone He chooses. It isn’t about us being perfect people.  King James printed the first English bible which bore his name King James Bible of 1611 A.D.  He is a true example of Christ’s grace and mercy because if people were to look at the life of King James they would see that he was not a perfect person and quite controversial.  Some would say he wasn’t even a good man but I point out the fact that God still used him as an instrument to bring us what we use as our lifeline today – the Holy Bible.  Without the word of God, where would we be?  If God would use someone like King James to do something as important as bring us an English Bible, we have to believe that His grace and mercy toward us is the same!

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

Christ first, my husband and then my supportive friends and family.  I know that my anointing to worship, write and lead are not for my own benefit so that is what keeps me going.  I have learned to trust God and have faith in His promise to equip me to do what He has called me to do.  I look at how Christ didn’t give up on His way to the cross and just press forward knowing that lives are connected to my press! There is a charge and call on my life and God will give me all I need to walk in it.  He has also given me a husband and supportive friends and family that have been gifted to encourage me when I need it most.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Time spent with God and His Word, Humility and Unity.  Doing what I do, leading worship and ministry, we cannot take people anywhere that we have not been.  So the first thing is spending time with God and the Word.  We must spend time with Him in private in order to be effective in Public.  In order to connect to people to God’s heart, I have to know the way there!  Secondly, there must be humility.  What we do is for no glory of our own but for God and for His people.  If we ever think it is about us and become a distraction, God will gladly move us out of the way.  Lastly, everyone needs someone to do anything.  Without unity and working together there will be division and a house divided against itself will not stand.  You must function under one vision and one mind.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My dreams and aspirations change as I cross them off my list which allows me to set new goals. My business was a goal and working with  entertainers, athletes and nonprofit organizations on their PR campaigns, red carpet events and making a difference in the lives of others. I constantly set new goals that keep me motivated and challenged.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

My encouragement comes from my parents who I admire and respect the most.  They have always instilled in me that I can achieve anything I put my mind to and that quitting is never an option. In 2006, my father was trying to convince me that I can win the NYC Marathon as long as I put my mind to it and not give up. Needless to say, I didn’t win but his words carried me through the finish line.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

I bring many resources to the table but the most outstanding is the network and contacts that I have been able to build through friendships and business relationships throughout the years and combining it with my experience and knowledge of the business.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I was fortunate to realize that I would be running a public relations firm and working with professional athletes and organizations while I was a freshman in high school.  I knew I would be an entrepreneur with my own business and would be able to handle many different responsibilities that a “Superwoman” can handle. I have been blessed with such characteristics and abilities.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

I believe everybody can learn from the wisdom of the Buddha and incorporate his disciplines in their own lives. The name of my company, Indra Public Relations comes from a Buddhist word meaning the king of the gods; controller of the senses, and the beauty and splendor of heaven.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

Failure is the greatest part of learning and motivation.  Each of us fail at a certain points in our lives. I never looked down on myself and always figured out a way to turn a negative into a positive which makes me successful.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

The key to success is to keep an open mind and obtain as much knowledge and insight that you can.  Be open and honest in your dealings and have the confidence and faith in yourself.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

Be the best role model to your children and raise them with good ethics.  Our children are our future leaders of the world. Also, do at least one kind act each day that you would want people to do for you and others. It can be as simple as saying good morning to a stranger on the elevator or holding open the door for somebody.  Kind acts are contagious! Aspire to inspire.

DERRICK Interview with Animal Advocate and Child Actor Sean Martin

October 15, 2012

The #1 Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Sean Martin a 12-year-old actor with roles in various College Humor spoofs, television shows such as Team Toon and Redrum and starring as “Damaso” in the film Sin Dolor, which premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. television and starring as “Damaso” in the film Sin Dolor. He started “Kids Adopt a Shelter” to help animals with over 4,200 Facebook “likes,” 23 state representatives and over 55 shelter adopters. Martin won the 2012 Regional Kohl’s Cares Scholarship.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My dream goal is to help animals in every shelter, rescue and sanctuary on this planet.  I want all animals to be happy and not suffer. So far I have achieved 23 state representatives and over 55 shelter adopters.  “Kids Adopt A Shelter” has also gone worldwide with representatives in New Zealand and Canada.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

Seeing animals suffering in shelters or anywhere encourages me to continue with my mission “To make sure every shelter, rescue and foster can keep animals comfortable while waiting to be adopted, with the help of fellow kids.”  I just want to see animals happy and healthy so they can be adopted into a loving home.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

What makes me unique is that I am only 12 years old and have a worldwide organization.  I think my youth and passion is what gets people so excited to help out and be a part of “Kids Adopt A Shelter.”

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready right after my dog named Moose passed away in December 2011.  Even though I did a small fundraiser around Halloween, I was ready to put bigger and better effort into it after he passed away.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

One person others should learn about is fellow actor and animal advocate Lou Wegner.  Lou started Kids Against Animal Cruelty, which also helps animals and promotes the importance of adopting pets and spaying and neutering.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

When things look bleak the happiness of dogs, cats and other animals makes me want to continue.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

One major key to success is to put your whole heart into what you do.  You should give it everything you’ve got and not do things halfway.  People see when you truly believe in your cause, business or goal and they get inspired to help make it successful.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

I want people to know the importance of spaying and neutering to prevent homeless animals.  Others should do whatever they can to help animals or  those less fortunate.  I think “Kids like me should learn the joy of giving back. We should stand up for animals that cannot stand up for themselves  because animals need a voice, and kids can be that voice.” It is important for all people to volunteer in general.  Even if you cannot donate money or items, one thing everyone can donate is their time.
