The Derrick Hayes SUMMER Challenge

July 10, 2015

EmceeOnce I came up with the idea for the SUMMER Challenge I thought people would come and share their life through it. Not one person was in a hurry to Get published, Get noticed, Inspire others and Change lives.

I can’t blame anyone but myself because if you ask someone to do something you should do it first or do it with them. Here is my SUMMER Challenge and when you do yours it can be turned into a Bio, Article, Speech, Book or Documentary.

S is for Story. Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Derrick Hayes also known as The Encouragement Speaker and I write and speak to encourage others to use their gifts so that they can position themselves to be able to build relationships effectively.

U is for Unique. What is different about you?

One of the things that is unique about me is that I have a gift to turn names into positive messages right before your eyes that I call Derricknyms.

M is for Mountain. What obstacles have you had to overcome?

One obstacle that recently overcame and work on daily is to keep my cholesterol and weight down.

M is for Momentum. What did you do to overcome the obstacles?

After asking God about my diet it was revealed to me that I should stop eating meat. I followed those instructions and I have only had meat a few times since 2013.

E is for Encouragement. How do you encourage others on a daily basis?

On a daily basis I encourage others with The DAILY Message that includes a Derricknym and through Motivation To Your Mobile an app that you can download for free on Android and iPhones.

R is for Reason. Why are you here on earth?

I feel like I’m on earth to show at least one person that you can make and that they should never ever count you out.

Derrick Hayes is known as the “Encouragement Speaker” and is available for speaking engagements and Derricknym signings at meetings, conferences, and events. Please visit http://www.DerrickHayes.com email info@DerrickHayes.com  or call (706) 615-1662 to book Derrick Hayes now.

Make Your Dream SCREAM in 2015

Scream2015

Did 2014 workout the way you wanted it to? In 2015 many people will come up with New Years Resolutions without a plan in place to get things done. The thought of struggling year after year chasing dream after dream should make you want to scream.

The next time you scream start putting passion and purpose into your dream so that you can see and hear the possibilities in your future. Scream like never before so that the noise this time helps your message become heard and that it is loud and effective enough that you could be also be found in a crowded room.

When a baby exits the Mother’s womb one of the first things they do is to let out a scream. Look at your life like you still have time to give birth to ideas, inventions and institutions so that the world can scream out your name.

Through the word SCREAM I will share with you 6 things you can do now to help you build your cash cow and  Make Your Dream SCREAM in 2015.

With my Dad James Hayes, Jr. Be thankful of those that dreamed of you.

With my Dad James Hayes, Jr. Be thankful of those that dreamed of you.

The S is so that you Speak Your Dream. Anyone can have a dream but many are afraid to speak life into it. You have the power to speak positive and negative into your life. Talk to your dream daily and share with others that have your best interests at heart. The more you speak your dream the more it will become a permanent and positive thought in your your mind that will attract the right ideas and instruction so that your dream can reach it’s destiny.

It is known that it takes at least 21 days for a habit to become permanent in your life. Several attempts may be necessary for others to believe in you enough to make you a part of their day. Keep sharing your insight day after day and you may soon become the expert that others see you as.

The C is so that you Content Your Dream. After you are confident in speaking your dream to life start writing it down. Simply pull out a piece of paper and “write it down and make it plain,” just like it says in Habbakuk.

Think about why is this your dream and write it down into an affirmation statement that you can read and speak life into your dream.  Write this statement on a piece of paper that you can keep with you or near you at all times.

This is necessary because people, places and things will come your way to only distract you away from your dreams to help them with their dreams. You have to know when to say win.

Now pull out another piece of paper along with your affirmation statement and write down what your dream inspires you to write. The ideas that pour out in this brainstorming session will be phenomenal. Give it a chance and don’t limit yourself. Many have discovered that for the first time that they could write poems, stories, quotes and even novels. Some will even come up with ideas for articles that could produce future books or movies.

The R is so that you Resource Your Dream. Once you see for yourself how your dream can benefit others find ways in which you can share these nuggets of wisdom. If you are on social media platforms like Twitter, Linked In, Facebook, Google Plus or YouTube you already have an audience that you can share your dream with and get immediate feedback.

If you like to write short pieces like quotes a good idea is to open up a Twitter or Facebook account and share your ideas with your friends or followers. If you are a long distance writer a blog with WordPress or Blogger would be a good idea and if making videos to empower others is your cup a tea give YouTube or Tube Mogul a try.

AskDerrickAboutThe E is so that you Expert Your Dream. In order to be the best you have to want to be the best. Learn how to turn what you understand into a brand. I will share with you three things I started to do that help establish myself as an Encouragement Expert. Add what you learn to this list and share it with others.

#1. Build a brand with your content. Each weekday I share The DAILY (Derricknyms, App and Idea to Lift You) Message throughout my social media and subscribers of my Motivation To Your Mobile Android and iPhone app receive a positive word of encouragement right to their phones to give them boost at the start of each day.

#2. Get quoted. In 2008 when the economy was declining I started looking for ways to get free publicity and I started getting quoted in blogs and on other online publications like CNN.com and MSNBC.com. Recently I emailed over 100 educational reporters to possibly write a story about me and the one response I received was from Daily Edventures a blog published by Microsoft and they honored me as a Global Hero in Education.

#3. Write articles. Some of the publications that I write for on a regular basis are magazines such as B.O.S.S., Gigare Lifestyle Magazine, and the Holistic Times Newsletter. Find blogs, newspapers and magazines that you are interested in writing for and see what their writer guidelines are and start submitting your best articles today.

As you continue to build your brand and you are quoted along with your articles appearing in publications start to develop a press page that you can update where you list all of your accomplishments in one place and a press release so that you can keep getting the word out about what you are doing.

The A is so that you Align Your Dream. A great lesson I learned with business and life is that you can only go so far by yourself and that you must network and connect with others so that you can BUILD relationships.  A great way to partner with like minds is to offer them opportunities to share their talents with your audience. When you do this it opens doors for more people to want to work with you. Here are three opportunities that I offer to other entrepreneurs, experts and celebrities so that we can connect and get to know each other without any pressure of having to do business together.

#1. Interview other experts. One day I decided to use my name to create DERRICK Interviews where each letter of my name inspires a question that will allow others to tell their unique story through my brand. I have done over 250 DERRICK Interviews via email, over the phone and in person. Go to DERRICK Interviews for more information where you will see the questions that are asked and other DERRICK Interviews that I have done.

TodaysHonoree#2. Honor people. After talking to L.J. Holloway one day I was inspired to start a blog where we would recognize someone each day of the week that is making  a positive contribution to our society. This brainstorm session is what inspired Today’s Honoree. The decision was also made that I could not nominate anyone myself and that the people that are featured have to be recommended by one their peers. Today’s Honoree has featured over 750 people and each person that is nominated and featured can pay it forward and nominate others that deserve recognition.

#3. Let others write.  After writing articles for several blogs and publications I realized the importance of offering Guest Blogging Opportunities to others so they could have the chance to become published that would assist in building their portfolios and brands. On Encouragement Speaker people can write guest blog posts that are encouraging including topics such as Words Of Encouragement for their industry, College Shout Out, Importance Of Building Relationships and Welcome To My City.

The M is so that you Monetize Your Dream. When you are able to use your skills and pay some bills it gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Martin Luther King, Jr. didn’t just want you to have a dream. Dr. King marched, boycotted and fought for Civil Rights so that you can “Make Your Dream SCREAM in 2015.”  When you Speak, Content, Resource, Expert and Align your Dream you will be in a good position to Monetize Your Dream. Here are 3 ways you can Monetize Your Dream.

Presentation at Tennessee State University

Presentation at Tennessee State University

#1. Get paid to speak. There is an audience that will pay you for what you are an expert at. The College Market is one where I present to students and staff on the topics of Personal and Professional Branding, Networking and How to BUILD Relationships. Through my own campus experiences when I was a student I teach others how to find their own entrepreneurship opportunities while working from their dorm room as well as how to give back and pay it forward by starting scholarships funds that can help raise millions of dollars to keep kids in school with their dreams alive.

In the past I have lectured at colleges and universities such as Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Illinois, Clarion University, Jackson State University, Columbus State University, Bowie State University, AIU Buckhead and many others.

#2. Get paid to consult. When you begin to speak to groups and organizations people will be interested in learning how you are able to get paid to do what you do. This can be a golden opportunity for you to develop a training program that will assist others to help make their dream SCREAM.

#3. Write books. Back in 2000 I wrote and self published my first book entitled Derricknyms that I went on to sell over 4,000 copies out my car. During my self publishing days I was able to meet celebrities such as Mike Epps, Butch Carter, Pastor Troy, Ecstacy of Whodini and Herschel Walker who were inspired by my story and bought a copy of my book right out of my hands.

The more you dream the more your life will SCREAM. Keep finding ways to Speak, Content, Expert, Align and Monetize your Dream so that your passion and purpose will not only SCREAM but put you in position so that the noise you do make will be heard by the right people.

I pray that after you read this article you are able to, “Make Your Dream SCREAM in 2015.”

DERRICK Interview with Author Cedric Nettles

March 4, 2013

CedricNettlesEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Cedric Nettles who is the founder of SageRage Productions. Cedric is the author of ‘Torrential Waters’ and has a passion for creating other positive and hard hitting stories. His first film was a documentary on his alma mater which was the first black school to be accredited by the state Department of Education in South Carolina called ‘Mayo High School: 105 Years of Golden Heritage.”

Cedric served as an communications specialist and paratrooper for elite military intelligence unit. Later he was appointed squad leader for signal intelligence unit for the 10th Mountain Division based in Fort Drum NY.

He spent 6 years working behind the scenes for WPDE/WWMB Florence/Myrtle Beach. Cedric has acted in independent films and commercials, modeled, as well as consulted on other projects. He attended the University of South Carolina for Broadcast Journalism. He is a native of Darlington,SC.

D is for Dream. What is your dream?

My dream is to be a world class author and film producer. I just don’t want to make stories, I want to make a statement. I care about the messages I put out there, and I have a SINCERE passion for what I do. And for the people helping me do it. Not for ego, but for the message and the artistic way I voice that message. The resources are catching up to the dream, so look out! (:

E for Encouragement. What encourages you?

What encourages me is my Lord & Savior who gets me through life’s storms in order to make me stronger without ever compromising on my sense of ethics. You can’t stop what is for you, so that keeps me encourage.

R is for Resources. What resources do you bring to the table that make you stand out or unique?

The resources I bring to the table is being humbled in life threatening situations in youth. Humility is a resource because it helps me appreciate the many people that have helped me along the way. I maintain a high sense of humility to help ensure I never hurt another human being as I make my ascent to higher ground.I think that is a unique trait I have been told I had.

R is for Ready. When did you know you were ready for what you are doing now?

This is very simple. Every possible resource I dreamed of as a 17-year-old are trickling in now. Can’t stop it even if I tried. It is incredible. ‘I knew.’ So I knew my calling is kicking in at this stage in my life…And you know what? I am glad. It took the hard years to make sure I had the character to handle it.

I is for Individual. What individual do you think we should know more about and why?

My mother is the one person that comes to mind. She says to me to this day ‘Do the right thing, and things will fall into place.” It is hard, and that doesn’t mean you will get that treatment from others, but I always got 10 fold of whatever I put out there. ALWAYS CAME BACK.So why not do good in the first place. (:

C is for Continue. What makes you want to continue when things look bleak or optimistic?

I think right now at this stage of my life, I had to learn to take my eyes off myself and place it on other people. Again it humbles you when you try to uplift other people around you. Then you realize how blessed you really are.

K is for Keys. What keys to success can you leave for others?

Erasing the possibility of quitting. The word ‘quit’ should be a vulgar one to you. Run your race and don’t fall in the snare of comparing yourself to others running a different race. Take whatever time you need to get there…Don’t stop! If people really knew what is buried inside me and others they would be stunned. You think they are going to stop the pot shots after they find out?? Nope. People will criticize you for what they think of you, not what they know of you. You look me in the eye you see, passion,long-suffering, and faith. When I see that look in others, I already know where they are going. Get that look and never surrender your dreams, peace, and ideas to anyone.

Education Over Broken Promises by Dr. Corneila Gibson

January 24, 2013

SurvivingBookCoverThanks for the opportunity to reach and uplift others just like me. I was a teen mother who was constantly told that I would never be anything more than a welfare statistic. It took me a while but I proved them all wrong. If this teen mother can do it, ANY ONE can. My book closely chronicles my life as a teen mother in an abusive relationship, adultery, being the other women, and other drama.

I am a Mother of three, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist to many, an Author of one, and a Child of the only One true living God. I am also known as Dr. Gibson, Dr. Cornelia, Dr. C. or just plain Cornelia. If I am going back to my childhood roots in Richmond, CA, then you would know me as Annie.  I have a B.A. in Psychology, a M.A. in Counseling Psychology, and a Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology.

Now that my God has carried me through my long educational journey, I am being lead to tackle the entertainment arena. My long term plans include presenting my novel Surviving Broken Promises as a Stage Play. This will not be like any other stage play in that it will offer a twist that I have not seen presented in any other play. The twist is something that I am sure both my father (God rest his soul) and my Father God will be proud of. After all, I have learned from both of them to think BIG, dream BIG, pray BIG, and then MAKE IT HAPPEN!

As I said, “my plans” are for the future but every day God puts other people, places and things in my life that gets me closer to Him.  So whatever His plans are for me I will follow.

When I am not working on a writing project then you will find me doing some type of counseling.  I have co-facilitated court ordered anger management and parenting classes.  I have provided teen counseling services at local nonprofit agencies.  I have provided counseling services to children and families and victims of crimes though a local private practice.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in working with people who have had the unfortunate reality of being a victim of a crime. If this is you please let me help you get your life back on track. I also help with relationship problems, careers, and teen issues. I also provide direction, leadership, and coaching to a local home for teen mothers. Last but not least, I provide counseling services to youths and their families through Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

Counseling and motivating is not only my passion but also my calling in life.  What is yours? Let me help you figure it out!

Visit Dr. Cornelia Gibson for more information.
