DERRICK Hayes Interview with Designer Drea DaVinci

November 24, 2015

DreaEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with DreaDaVinci who is first and foremost an artist.  DreaDaVinci is a renaissance woman who wants to dominate today’s fashion landscape. Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from the Univeristy of Oregon in combination with studies abroad of art and culture have honed her creative eye and skill set. Drea utilizes her knowledge and experience in fashion blogging, celebrity styling, development of online boutiques, and marketing. Her design aesthetic ranges from fashion forward looks to timeless classics. Drea’s world travels have inspired a collection of clothing geared towards today’s tastemakers and trendsetters. DreaDavinci Clothing is a lifestyle and a movement that symbolizes the finer things and a love of the good life.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

Above all, I want to be happy.  My dream is to travel as much of the world as possible. I dream of living on a beautiful beach and painting pieces that I can incorporate into my clothing designs.  I want to use my abilities to inspire other artists and business people alike to create and innovate.  I had a dream of creating the dreadavinci brand and watching it manifest has been literally a dream come true!

E is for Education. What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Ethnic Studies with a minor in Political Science from the University of Oregon.  I studied art and culture abroad and have traveled extensively, although there is so much more of the world I can’t wait to see!  I use my education to help interpret the social constructs around us, and to practice critical thinking and to “think outside the Matrix” if you will.  My first job out of college was in finance and I am so thankful to have a grasp on how to navigate the world of finance as it is vital in owning and running a company.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

What makes my brand so strong is my team.  I have one of the best designers in the world working with me, Dallas Stokes.  He has been in the industry for decades  and is extremely talented and well connected, with a hugely successful track record.   I also have one of the best production managers in the business, Ralph De Blanc, with over 30 years of experience.   He has a priceless skill set and a wealth of knowledge!  We all speak the same language of working hard, upholding good business ethics, transparency in all matters of communication, loyalty, and honesty.  The dreadavinci brand is unique in that the designs reflect our experiences as world travelers and connoisseurs of style.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready almost a year ago when I found the niche in the market that needed filling.  I had previously owned an online boutique and had styled various celebrities.  My experience in marketing towards a fashion based demographic, driving traffic and search engine optimization, social media marketing, blogging, finance, and buying and selling different clothing lines helped prepare me to have my own company.  Also my background as an artist helped my confidence in my ability to design.  I saw that there was a niche for my line, and it’s been a lot fun exploring that opportunity.

I is for Individual. Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

Dallas Stokes.  Because his resume is unparalleled.  He went straight from high school at the age of 17 designing shoes and brands that have literally transformed the entire industry.  Look him up, his body of work is crazy.

C is for Challenges. What challenges have you had to overcome?

I’m not sure if many people realize how challenging it really is to get a shoe line produced. The day that we had confirmation that my shoes were going to be made, tears of joy were cried.  It still feels surreal to know that there’s an entire factory full of people working on my line, I have to pinch myself sometimes!

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

First and foremost, believe in yourself and never give up.  Surround yourself with positivity.  Don’t be afraid to sacrifice to get where you are going.  Read and do your research!  Two books really changed my life:  The Four Agreements and the Law of Attraction.  When one learns to harness the power of their minds and focus their mental towards manifesting magic, then magic happens!  I am a huge advocate of practicing gratitude for all blessings.  Surround yourself with people who are smart, successful, honest, and know more than you do.  Don’t be afraid of failure, be afraid of the failure to try. “Don’t let anyone outwork you” is a mantra my Dad instilled in me, and those words remind me constantly to aim higher and work harder.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

To be able to create a brand from just an idea in less than a year, and to have such a positive reception is truly humbling.  I am so thankful for the opportunity, and so excited to share my designs with the world!

DERRICK Interview with Daddy Everyday Author Delonso Barnes

September 30, 2013

DaddyEverydayEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Delonso Barnes, who is an author, filmmaker and marketing consultant based out of McDonough, Georgia, a city outside of Atlanta, Georgia. He is a graduate of The Art Institute of Atlanta and Thomas Edison State College in the fields of Music Entertainment Management and Marketing respectively. Barnes’ is a husband and father of two sons.

D is for Dream:  What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My ultimate dream has always been to make a living (at least equal to what I am making now) in entertainment, music in specifically. However, when I became a father in 2005, the focus moved to assisting others in realizing their dreams. I guess being a father figure to my son shifted my professional aspirations. Now, using my creativity and marketing know -how is how I want to make my living and make my dream a reality

E is for Education:  What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

My educational background consists of an AA in Music Entertainment Management from The Art Institute of Atlanta and a BSBA in Marketing from Thomas Edison State College. Life itself have educated me rather assisting bands in their marketing and promotional efforts or brainstorming with small business owners on strategizing their businesses.

R is for Resource: What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

My resources are truly at their highest when I’m passionate about the project. When I’m passionate, my creativity, dedication, previous experiences and business sense really shine. I can develop simple marketing plans for projects but when my heart is in it, my strategizing is on another level.

R is for Ready: When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

Currently, I’m in the middle of marketing and promoting my first book entitled, Daddy Everyday. To be honest I wasn’t ready for this or even wanted to write it. The concept of writing a book about changing the negative perception of black fathers was placed on my heart from the Almighty and intensified by raising my two sons. In addition to Daddy Everyday, I’m in production of a documentary entitled, The East Atlanta Project, about the struggles and life of black hip-hop, punk and rock musicians performing in and out of Atlanta. Music is my roots and I have always been ready for this, just didn’t know my place. I actually had to stop production of the documentary because writing Daddy Everyday was my purpose and I couldn’t do anything else until it was written.

I is for Individual: Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

One individual in my network others should learn more about is Roy Cummings. His thirst for knowledge and then ability to turn that knowledge into know-how e.g. like photography, graphic design and communication , makes him a valuable asset to a network.

C is for Challenges: What challenges have you had to overcome?

The challenges I have experienced throughout my pursuit of happiness, happiness being working for myself, have been self-inflicted. Procrastination and fear have crippled my progress and focus. Only way to combat procrastination and fear is quite simple in theory, but can be complicated in execution. The solution is, take action. I simply started writing for the book and filming for the documentary. Then I reached out for a little assistance, which also forced accountability on my part. Once I got things rolling, my procrastination reduced, still around though. My fears have subsided and I’m courageous in my business dealings.

K is for Key: What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Research, plan and do it. Regardless of what people say, do it. If you fail, pivot your plan and try again. If you are passionate about your business, don’t let anything derail your focus and dedication.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

If you are looking for motivation or inspiration, you don’t have to look no farther than the person in the mirror. Envision yourself living your dream and let that be your inspiration.

September 13, 2013

barryBrownEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Barry Brown who is the Senior Executive Consultant with Bar-Red Entertainment Group (BREG) an Atlanta, GA based company which specializes in Entertainment Consulting (Marketing & Promotions); Business Development; Business Relationship Management; Social Media Management and Parent/Youth Empowerment Speaking.

We consult on all facets of the Music Industry. We specialize in connecting our clients with people they need to know and people that need to know them. We assist our clients with creating/developing Artist Names, Image, Song Concepts & Artist Development to Graphic Design,  Packaging, Marketing/Promotions & Digital/Physical Distribution. We will point you in the right direction and/or set everything up for you. We also look for Paid and Non-Paid tour & performance opportunities along with  vending opportunities to help sell & promote your new material.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My goal is to become the #1 business, education & entertainment consultant in the country! — BAR-RED ENTERTAINMENT GROUP (BREG). One of the highlights of my career thus far has been co-producing “OnStage Live Revue” — The Hottest Live Performance Promotional Event in the Southeast from 2000 – 2007. We produced this event at The Atrium in Stone Mountain, GA, and we were the predecessor to all of these open-mics and talent contests that you see now.

I have assisted and I am currently assisting several artists and companies move from one point in their careers to a higher level. I am currently working with talented artists such as TAVARES STEPHENS (Spoken Word/Gospel Music Artist) – ; KEEYEN MARTIN (Soul/PopArtist) – FLI UNIVERSITY (pronounced FLY – Rap Group).

I am also helping Hustle University continue to grow it’s brand as the top Leadership, Entrepreneurship & Education company in the country! Our “Make A Way” Education Program is being used in over 900 schools across the country! We are changing lives and transforming schools!!!

E is for Education. What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC on an Academic & Football Scholarship. I graduated with a  Bachelor’s Degree in English, with a minor in Physical Education. I use my education daily by being able to write effective comments via social media, blogs, press releases, artist bios, etc. Because I can communicate well in writing and verbally, it allows me to connect with and serve my clients in a major way. Education is very  important. We all have to develop a skill and/or a trade that people are willing to pay us for over and over again.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

Our #1 principle at Hustle University is “Your Network is your Networth.” So one of the 1st things I bring to the table is a network of professionals that take pride in getting the job done.

One of the other resources I bring to the table is sincerity and a major work ethic. I believe in working hard, smart and efficiently.

I also bring researching skills to the table. So when I’m working on a project, getting the background information that we need to succeed is very important. My clients really appreciate it!

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I realized that I was ready to become a consultant when a lot of people who used to come to “OnStage Live Revue” would call me out of the blue and ask for my opinion on what they wanted to do. Then they would ask me if I could help them accomplish their goals.

I is for Individual. Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

I would say Hotep is the person that more people should learn more about because he is the of the premier Keynote Speakers and Trainers in the country! As the Founder and CEO of Hustle University, he is leading the charge on the transformation of education in this country. The “Make A Way” Education Program is really something special!!!

C is for Challenges. What challenges have you had to overcome?

Like everyone else, life is not perfect for me either. I have had to deal with racism, being told I’m too small to play college football, capital/cash flow for my businesses and balancing family life and business.

But through the Grace of GOD, I am still here for my family and friends, plus my clients. GOD is an on time GOD, yes He is … !!!

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Our 10 principles called the Hustler’s 10 Commandments breaks it down, and it is actually our #1 presentation and all-time best selling book!!!

1. Your Network is Your Networth

2. Image is Everything

3. The Early Bird Gets The Worm

4. It’s Lonely at the Top

5. Success is where opportunity meets preparation

6. Business is Personal

7. Everything is Negotiable

8. It’s not what you know or who you know … It’s WHO knows YOU!!!

9. It take Dough to make Bread

10. Know & Believe in Thyself

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

Trust God for everything, He will sustain us!!! and Put forth maximum effort every day, and walk in Faith!

Visit Barry Brown for information.

No man is perfect. Many times I have seen women try to change their man with negative results. Men, are you in a relationship that is worth saving? If the answer is yes, Love her enough to quit. If she wants you to stop smoking, Love her enough to quit. If she needs you to stop cheating, Love her enough to quit. If you are abusing her verbally, Love her enough to quit.

Ask your mother, wife, lady or girlfriend this one question. Is there anything about my life that I can change to better our relationship? If what they say makes sense and will make you a better man, Love her enough to quit.

A few years ago my life hit rock bottom. I looked into the bible and I saw the word woe. I also wanted to see how the dictionary defined woe. Woe meant trials or tribulations. In life a woe to you might be a job loss and to another it might be a broken relationship.

One day I was thinking how I could reinvent my life so I wrote down the word woe on a piece of paper.

As the document spoke to me it revealed that woe now meant WOE as in Word of Encouragement. From there I received this slogan.

Look Up an old friend this week. Old relationships can lead to new opportunities.

Look Up at a clock. A blessing is waiting for you and it’s always on time.

Look Up to others so one day others will Look Up to you. If you ever fall down, just Look Up .
