DERRICK Interview with International Singer and Songwriter Liryks

May 25, 2015

LiryksEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Liryks, a singer and songwriter who was born in Israel and has the bilingual gift to be able to speak and sing in English and Hebrew. Early on, she developed a passion for music and she began writing poems at the age of 9. As a teenager she did some modeling and attended acting classes.

While clearly gifted as an artist, Liryks was also bright academically, and she wanted to explore this path and widen her perspectives. She attended TA University Law Faculty and graduated summa cum laude.

Liryks produced several music shows formats for a European TV channel, and this experience encouraged her to focus on her music career and to produce her first album as a singer-songwriter. This album is an expression of the musical styles and vibes she absorbed in her voyages around the world combined with her original style and her exceptional mastery of the written word. All the album songs were written and composed by Liryks.

The first single, IN THE BEGINNING, gives a new meaning to ancient words, and creates a rare combination between a modern bit and the language of the Bible. This single is the product of a great poetic sensitivity, a clear vision on life, a unique voice and a cool and accurate musical production.”

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

My dream is to live a meaningful life, full of love, creativity and awareness; I wish to sparkle as a unique singer-songwriter and to keep on developing my great career. I wish that my art and my songs will reach many more people around the world, touch their lives, influence, empower and inspire them. I want my art to bring love, spread joy, encourage self-reflection and offer comfort.

E is for Education. What is your educational background and how do you use it daily?

I mix my natural talents with my vast educational background. I love exploring new fields and learn new things. I never stop learning.

Besides being a musician and an artist, I went to university and got my degree. University education has given me the opportunity to think differently, to have a broader perspective. It also gave me practical tools to provide myself, to read the “small letters” and to manage the “business aspects” of being the chief producer/the one in charge of my career as a singer-songwriter and my own brand “Liryks”.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

The resources that make me unique and stand out as a singer-songwriter are: Being creative, original, independent, cool and courageous in my way – in my art. I have a great belief and I am very sharp. I can be a pixie, pose for the camera, get serious, be funny, or sing electronic blues, but I’m always me.

Above all: I really do enjoy creating; I love the lyrics, the sounds and the music. I have my own deep truth to share, and I am sharing it in my own words, with my own voice and in my own original way.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I’ve always knew I was talented, I’ve always created, I ‘ve always knew I can reach the stars, but I’ve always done other things in other fields, that I was very good at. When I was ready to commit myself and focus on what is really important to me, it all summed up to becoming a singer-songwriter: my poems, my voice, my sense of style, my love.

I is for Individual. Name at least one individual in your network that others should learn more about and why?

I have a few names in mind, but taking into account the context of this interview, I name: Viktor Emil Frankl, M.D., Ph.D. a neurologist, and psychiatrist who wrote the world-famous book entitled “Man’s Search for Meaning“. He believed that life never ceases to have meaning, even in suffering and death, life has potential meaning and that, therefore, even suffering is meaningful. Frankl believed that the meaning of life is found in every moment of living and that people are primarily driven by a striving to find meaning in one’s life.

I think his life story is inspiring and teaches us of the strength of the human spirit, and the importance of finding a meaning in our life.

C is for Challenges. What challenges have you had to overcome?

One of the hardest challenges I have to overcome is: forgetting! I always have to remind myself as a singer – songwriter,(and we all have to remind ourselves as human beings): TO BE TRUE TO MY OWN NATURE; TO FOLLOW MY INNER TRUTH.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

If you are ready to be reborn every day, you learn new things all the time. Believe, be creative, dare and stay natural.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

My name is Liryks, I am a singer –songwriter, my music is aimed  to inspire others, and I am glad people feel it. I am dedicating this paragraph to thank all you people that listened, came, participate, shared and sent me great comments and touching e-mails.

Remember: You don’t have to have a reason for loving. LOVE! You don’t have to have a reason for believing – BELIEVE! Thank you for loving and believing.

Dear Little Black Boy

May 18, 2013

AlexhayesI almost didn’t write you because at one point in my life I did not want to be labeled as black. One thing I learned is that blackness is the fulfillment of light and darkness is the absence of light. People say that “the truth shall set you free.” The key to that is you have to have the truth in order to be free.

As you grow know that it is alright to ask, question or challenge any truth that is brought before you. Any truth. When you find out what life really has for you be careful who you share your truth with until you are ready to put your life on the line.

Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. wanted your dream to come true by any means necessary. They were killed before their prophecies were fulfilled.

Know your race and understand that you are always in a race. Stay on track so that when you come out of the starting blocks you can hurdle obstacles and relay information so that the baton of optimism is passed on from generation to generation.

Last week I watched a documentary entitled “Hidden Colors” where it shared information about how people of color contributed to the world that we live in today. One group of people that the video mentioned were the Moors. I think you should research the Moors and see for yourself that you come from greatness. It’s never too late to be great.

I love you and I want the best for you. Reading, writing and arithmetic are three tools that you can use to change any game or industry. If you read when I write, you can count on me to stay in touch. In love I write you to light you.

PS (Please Share) because in all of us is a Little Black Boy.

DERRICK Interview with 2013 New York City Mayoral Candidate Ceceilia Berkowitz

February 11, 2013

CeciliaBerkowitzEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Ceceilia Berkowitz who is a 2013 New York City Mayoral Candidate.  Ceceilia Berkowitz is a 34 year old resident of Manhattan, originally from North Jersey. Ceceilia is  running for NYC Mayor as of January 31st, with a good strategy to plan to win the election, and simultaneously improve the politics and functioning of New York.

Ceceilia has significant relevant work experiences, networking connections and knowledge, and relevant educational background. Ceceilia is also in the process of assembling together a diverse and inclusive team of New Yorkers and other interested people.

After becoming good friends with Mayor Bloomberg over the last year and a half, several people that they both knew suggested that Ceceilia should possibly run for Mayor. Ceceilia is interested in meeting with Republican, Democratic, Independent, and other New Yorkers to formulate good democratic political views for my campaign.

After taking several political tests and surveys Ceceilia found that even ideas that were thought of as Republican for years in terms of Finance and Economics perspectives are still considered Democratic, and in the New York area we are likely to have friends interested in same sex marriage, abortion rights, and New Yorkers understand there are many unmarried New Yorkers who are young, working professionals. Therefore in this part of the country it is impossible to be anything else other than a Democrat according to the true political party beliefs and surveys. She thinks it is important to obey the law and respect the laws of the country you are in, so Ceceilia  paid for some legal advice via a campaign attorney before paying for PR or even beginning fundraising activities.

Ceceilia has interviewed with Forbes magazine and the NY Observer newspaper for future articles and reporters or members of the press that would like to interview her please contact Ceceilia by email at or by phone at 917-923-5760 / 973-204-9754.

D is for Dream. What is your dream and what have you achieved?

My dream is that I work as Mayor of NYC beginning in 2014. I have achieved much success since I was in high school in leadership and teamwork roles. For college, I attended the Wharton School where we were trained in leadership and teamwork in several classes and activities. I have had much success at work through achieving outstanding performance evaluations and contributing to the success of the companies. As a Professor, I help the majority of my students succeed and learn, and go on to much success in their chosen careers. As a social media journalist, my Klout factor is in the high 50s, and I am followed by many including the WOR710 radio outlet in the NY area.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

What encourages me is that I can make a good impact on the City of New York, and have the citizens be grateful and glad that I could help them achieve success and a good life in their favorite big city.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

My resources include my skills in finding good services online, and good taste in choosing people to hire and work with. I am able to recognize talent, and work with people to encourage them to contribute well to our team.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I began to realize I was ready for this position in March of 2012, when I wrote my good friend Mayor Bloomberg an email and revealed my plans to run for NY Mayor, beginning on January 31, 2013. It was a position that has interested me for a few years, because of my personality type and preferred work interests.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

I think that others should learn about Ray Kelly. He is a very impressive man, with several university degrees, and quite a few good work experiences before becoming Commissioner of the NYPD.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

The team of good people I recruited who want us to achieve success encourage me to continue on, and pursue success.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

I think the key to success is to be goal oriented, to know our goal is attainable, and to continue to move forward in a path toward realizing the goal.

Words Of Encouragement For Teachers

April 23, 2012

The young, old, men, women, teenagers, congregations, groups, professionals and countless others have one thing in common.  They all need you – The Teacher.

Appreciation for teachers does not always come easy. They are often the last people thought of when students accept awards or give thanks to everyone who has helped them. But the position of teachers is unique and powerful.

Everyone needs a teacher in order to become anything. The scripture of Ephesians 4:11 says, God gave “…some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.” Although teachers maybe last, they are the supporting system of everything. Without the teacher the apostles won’t be able to administrate The Word of God. Without the teacher, the prophets won’t be able to learn how to listen and repeat what God says.

Without the teacher, the evangelists won’t be able to compile a sermon that inspires people to ask, “What must I do to be saved?”  Without the teachers, the pastors won’t know how to read The Word and lead God’s people. The whole world needs you – The Teacher.

You’re important. You’re the key to the next generation becoming wiser. The many types of students you may have will not always respond immediately, but your character, discipline and commitment to teach gives them more than just reading, writing and arithmetic. You give them a chance to see how they can learn, hear and grow into better people for the world.

So fear not. Don’t be dismayed. God goes before you. He will be right there with you. When you stand before them, God will not fail you. (Deuteronomy 31:8). As you teach them to observe what God has called you to teach, He will be with you always till the very end of the world (Matthew 28:20).
