Dream Like DARIUS to Get Moore Out Of Life

April 2, 2020

by Derrick Hayes the “enTIEtainer”

Did you know that when you work in a hostile environment someone might tell you something that sounds crazy now but it just might turn out to be the greatest news you should of ever listened to? Too bad for many of us because when we don’t want to hear or do certain things that others bring our way we run them off or turn our backs to them.

One day my co-worker Darius Moore asked me to participate in Bow Tie Monday with him and deep down inside I wanted to say no but I soon realized that there was not anyone else in sight that would support his idea and do it with him.

In my possession I had at least two clip on bow ties that would get me through two Bow Tie Mondays so I decided to give it a try and through his name DARIUS I’m here to discuss the 6 ways to get Moore out of life.

D is for Dream.  I never asked Brother Moore where he got the idea for Bow Tie Monday but I’m still thankful to this day that he asked me. There are more dreams in the cemetery than inside of people that are alive. Many are scared to fail or not try because others might laugh at them. DARIUS dream and my support to his idea were like peanut butter and jelly because they were meant for each other. You can’t live dreams if you never live and dream.

A is for Action.  An average person will dream but an above average person will actually put the dream into action and live the dream. The first time I participated in Bow Tie Monday I saw and felt a change in the atmosphere in our working environment.

People smiled and were giving up compliments and some even wanted to get to know more about us. Some of the students we work with do not talk or use very few words so when I noticed that they liked the change that they saw it was a no brainer for next week. I kept laughing to myself on the inside saying, “All of this because of a neck tie.”

R is for Remain. In life it is not the adversity you face but it is how you face the adversity that can determine how successful you are for the rest of your life. A TIE changing moment came one Sunday afternoon when I wanted to get a new bow tie to wear but it was storming and every element of weather was outside to keep me inside including rain, thunder and lightning.

My mind was made up that I would have a tie for Bow Tie Monday so I started to think how I could turn the regular ties that I had into the bow ties that I need. I watched videos on YouTube and I learned how to do it and I knew right then that I would never have to miss another Bow Tie Monday.

I is for Inspire.  The more and more we took action with the dream the more and more others were inspired. At least once a week we showed a positive image with two black men dressed up and this truly began to inspire others inside our classroom, outside our classroom, throughout the school and in the community.

People started to ask questions and participate and even wanted to learn how to turn regular ties into bow ties. It made impossible things seem possible.

U is for Unique. When you do something long enough you will want to get better at it and even want to find a new way to do it.  I never agreed to do Bow Tie Monday thinking that one day I would learn how to make my own ties.

In order to get better in whatever you do you have to find ways to step your game up. I was doing Bow Tie Monday but did not even know how to tie a self-tie bow tie. After I learned how to tie one I was excited and bought some fabric so that someone could make me a make a bow tie to wear to a Christmas Party.

After three different people that knew how to sew told me that they could not make me a bow tie I heard voices that would teach me step by step in how to make a bow tie without sewing. Now because I did not give up I can make regular ties, bow ties, ascots and pocket squares without sewing and I have a niche without a stitch.

S is for Serve. When I was chasing money I was broke but when I began to serve I have never missed a meal or deal because I live by the motto, “In order to get a blessing you have to be a blessing.”

The more I learned the more I wanted to teach others. Everyone is on different levels so there is always someone that you can teach. When I speak to youth groups I do my best to make sure every one of them has a tie so that they have a tangible tool that they can take home with them and practice the techniques that I teach them.

There are no odds for what I’m doing now and how I’m doing it.  I have seen myself go from not even wanting to wear a tie to traveling to different parts of the United States of America teaching others how to tie a tie.

There is a Dream inside of DARIUS just like there is inside of you. Success will come but you have to take Action, Remain, Inspire, be Unique and do everything you can to Serve others and this is how you will get Moore out of life.

BILD Your Legacy: The Emmanuel Brunson Story

March 31, 2020

by Derrick Hayes the “enTIEtainer

A few years ago I was sitting in a classroom with a Co-Worker who was also a Father, Husband, Soldier, Coach, Athlete and soon to be one of my Community Partners. Emmanuel Brunson was telling me how he was helping young athletes learn how to play the quarterback position but at the time he did not know the power in what he was doing.

Every time Emmanuel Brunson would bring it up to me I would ask him one question and that was, are you Video taping the sessions? The next question I would ask him is do you have a program in place to offer what you do to other athletes?

Brunson stepped out on faith and started B.I.L.D. (Brunson’s ILITE Level Development) and through the name of BILD I’m here to share the story of Emmanuel Brunson so that others can be inspired to B.I.L.D. their own legacy.

B is so that you Believe:

As time went on Coach Brunson not only listened to my advice but he asked me to be a guest speaker at his programs start up that would take place back where he grew up in Columbus, Ga in the Wilson Housing Projects. It was a blessing to bring neck ties and books out with a positive message to the youth during the Friday Night Lights Sessions.

I is so that you Innovate:

EB as some in his inner circle call him took the momentum from Friday Night Lights and went for it and started B.I.L.D. (Brunson’s ILITE Level Development) an athletic and performance company that specialized in football training. B.I.L.D. started to grow because of the work with athletes and non athletes that helped them reach their goals in sports and in overall health.

L is so that you Let others help:

Emmanuel knew that in order to not wear down and burn out he needed to grow his B.I.L.D. team with other athletes that could train like Coach Mike Jones and Coach DJ Lemons.

Each coach brings something different to the table and that is why B.I.L.D has the ability to teach athletes and non athletes how to gain in the areas of speed, agility, strength and conditioning along with weight loss and toning.

D is so that you Don’t stop:

When B.I.L.D. lived up to their philosophy of helping others accomplish goals by making sure that they had the most unique and high performance training Emmanuel Brunson and the B.I.L.D.  team were able to grow out of one facility and start an even bigger one with more programs and opportunities to help athletes grow into their potential.

When you Believe, Innovate, Let others Help and Don’t stop you can B.I.L.D. anything and even B.I.L.D. Your Legacy. For more information on B.I.L.D. please go to their website at http://ilitedevelopment.com/

DERRICK Interview with Running Scared Author Robert Leon Davis

September 20, 2018

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Robert Leon Davis who is the Author of Running Scared and in this book he details his former life of a young, 22 year old, cocky and arrogant police officer, who committed a crime in 1979, was arrested, skipped bail, and became known as one of America’s longest running fugitives without being apprehended; for 22 years.

The U. S. Marshal Service and FBI (interstate flight to avoid prosecution) searched for him for over two decades.

The book details how he lived a nomadic life in the woods and forest, and his travels throughout various cities.

It also details how he hunted and consume wild animals, how he dealt with the elements, as well as how he conquered loneliness.

The author eventually “voluntarily surrendered” in 2001, by then nearly 50 years of age, after what he described as a revelation. The Judge gave him no prison time, but released him on probation, after assessing that he “eventually incarcerated himself”.

The author travels the country for the last 16 years speaking to potential police candidates, churches, schools, and various organizations about crime and corruption.

Since his “surrendered” he’s been featured on The 700 Club with Pat Robertson, NPR stations nationally, Snap Judgement, various newspapers, and CBS did a special segment on his life.

Now a senior citizen over 60, and looking back over 40 years ago, he now appreciates freedom.

The author was (and still is) soo sickened by his past life, (especially dishonoring the badge), that as a token of his appreciation for forgiveness, profits from his books are donated to The St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and various women and children abuse organizations.

This book is an example to all that repentance can actually be demonstrated in a positive way. His motto is;

“Learn to forgive so that you may be forgiven”.

D is for My DEVOTION to revealing the secret tactics of bad/rogue law enforcers, who has dishonored the badge and the communities trust. Many, through my website and articles, have been reprimanded or jailed. It’s a token of my bad experiences as a bad cop.

E is to EDUCATE the common citizen, also through my book and online articles, that just like you have bad carpenters, bad auto mechanics, etc., why wouldn’t one believe there are bad cops? Every vocation had a bad worker.

R is for RESPECT. Even if a law enforcer has an issue with your dreads, your style, men wearing earring, or ladies with tattoos, he must still respect you as a human.

Oftentimes, not only law enforcers, but everyday people who don’t share your style, has already determined who you are based on their physical observation of you.

I’ve personally have had to get over this hump. Just wait until they open their mouths, and you may see something totally different.

R is for Repentance. Trust me, God already knew that you and I was not made perfect; by design. Once he brought the Messiah into the picture, there could be no other perfection. The closest that we will become perfect is through repentance. In essence, you get another chance.

I is for Information. Now a days, unlike many years ago, or in the case of people of color, you can Google all sorts of information.

You can discover things you never knew. For instance, through Google, I discovered that the light bulb didn’t, “only” come from Thomas Edison’s mind, but a black person was in the “back”. The main person behind the concept along with Edison was him!

C is for COLORS of people. Listen, the color of your skin is based on a simple pigmentation issue. It has nothing to do with your successes, or lack of successes. It’s the mind, or the thinking processes of the mind. An examination of any human mind is all grey, and only weight about the same weight across the board. It’s just grey matter. The inside is what matters.

K is for Kindness. Ever been at an appointment or other venue where children of different races are together? Notice how they gravitate towards each other?

They, at that point, don’t understand racism, bigotry, or even hate. They are naturally kind to each other. Maybe some of us should look at that hard. It’s deep.

DERRICK Interview with “Motivator of the Millennium,” Keith L. Brown

May 24, 2013

KeithLBrown2Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Keith L. Brown“Motivator of the Millennium,” who was identified as a “Special Ed” and “At Risk” student, primarily because he talked too much, was too hyper, and wanted to give “all the answers”; ironically, these are a few of the same traits that make him one of the most sought after Professional Speakers, Consultants, and Trainers on the planet.

Named a “World Class Speaker” and one of the top speakers and consultants in Education by “Insight Publishing,” Keith empowers hundreds of thousands of people annually, many of whom are in colleges, schools, school systems, supplemental education agencies, family advocacy agencies, foundations, government agencies, Faith Based Institutions and private events.

D is for Dream. What is your dream?

It is my Dream to inspire the masses globally with a message that transforms their “impossible” into I’M POSSIBLE. I endeavor to give people a roadmap to not just success but Significance. Success is often defined by individual accomplishments, but my dream is to take people from the limited mindset of being successful to a servant leader mindset of being Significant.

E is for Encourage. What Encourages you?

I am encouraged by the youth I serve daily across the country and the world. Although there is a universal sense that our youth are apathetic, there are far more youth doing positive work and living with purpose. I am encouraged by youth featured in a new book I co-authored with Dr. Marina Gillmore and Dr. Monique Henderson entitled, “Inspirational Youth: Transforming Average to Extraordinary.” I am encouraged by a Mary Pat Hector, who at 15, has dedicated her life to eradicating bullying as she works tirelessly as the youth director of Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. I am encouraged by Joey Gigunito, who at 15, started the Where is the Love Foundation, and the mission of the foundation is to finance orphanages in Kenya. I am encouraged by these and other youth who are living a life of service and yes- SIGNIFICANCE.

keithLBrownR is for Resource. What Resource do you bring to the table that makes you stand out or unique?

The Resources that make me stand out are my passion and ability to connect. I was actually labeled “Special Ed” because I was too hyper. I am still too hyper and passionate and energetic and just plain OVER THE TOP when it comes to inspiring and moving the masses into their destiny. Although I don’t consider myself the best at what I do- I sincerely believe no one does what I do in the manner in which I do it. I am able to connect because I am not just a professional speaker, I am an audience member at the same time I am on the stage. I connect because I am transparent and real. When audiences hear me, they know it is not just what I do or say, it is genuinely who I am. Because I bring forth a great deal of energy and passion, and I am able to connect, that transfers directly to the hearts of the people. Anyone can get to their heads. I however, endeavor to get to their hearts.

R is for Ready. When did you know you were Ready for what you are doing now?

I realized I was ready in the year 1999. I was teaching in a small rural town in Middle Georgia, and one night after working out at a local gym- I was driving home. As I turned on my radio, the song “You’re Next in Line for a Miracle,” by Gospel Legend Pastor Shirley Caesar was on. I wept for hours and drove around town for hours. It was at that very moment I knew God was beckoning me to “Step out on Faith” and empower the masses, not just in one sensational school but in schools across the world. And because I obeyed, I went from impacting the lives of 500 students annually to now over 500,000 people annually. It has been an humbling and fulfilling experience all at once.

I is for Individual. Can you name one Individual that others should learn more about and why?

I feel others should learn about Jarel Jones, a Graduating Senior at Stephenson High School. I met him on yesterday as I delivered the keynote address for the Pre Commencement Services. Near the end of my presentation, I chose him to come up and receive a Scholarship from our company, 20/20 Enterprises. The scholarship is given to a student who has overcome the odds and inspired others. Jarel was lifted into the air by 20 fathers in attendance, and the audience of nearly 1,000 people erupted. The miracle is Jarel has been lifting people since the third grade as he has battled brain cancer. I was told he never complains and has lived with a dignity and grace only a vessel of light can live with. My life was forever changed by this young man, and others should learn about his story and ability to persevere.

C is for Continue. When things look bleak and not optimistic what makes you want to Continue?

When things look bleak or I am at my wits end, I Continue due to the following quote: There are two great days in your life- the day you were born and the day you discover WHY you were born.  On my worst days, I do not focus on the “how” “what” “when” or “where.” I focus on my WHY. My Why is my reason for living. My WHY is a compilation of all I am and will become. When I think of being labeled special ed and at risk, I remember my Why!!! When I think about the blockages I once had in my heart, I think about my Why!!! When I think about the brother and sister I lost to debilitating diseases, I think of my Why. When I think about my life- it is a mission, not an intermission. I get fuel from inspiring and empowering others, and that is my Why. Failing does not make me a failure. I am aware there will be harvests and droughts in my life; however, I am steadfast in both, knowing my WHY is greater than any setback or obstacle.

K is for Knowledge. What keys to success can you leave for others?

I sincerely believe the keys to success and significance are as follows:

  1. Treat people right. I believe when you treat people with respect and dignity, you will reap a bountiful harvest of endless blessings and opportunities will show up when you least expect them.
  2. Don’t live to prove others wrong; it is wasted energy. Instead of proving others wrong; prove yourself RIGHT!!!
  3. Surround yourself with people of vision and purpose. I tell young people all the time: The company you keep will determine the levels you reach.
  4. Stop spending money you don’t have, buying things you don’t need – to impress people who don’t care. Investing in resources and materials to enhance your purpose will bring forth economic stability and ultimately prosperity IF invested properly.
  5. Networking=Net Worth. Learn from those who are GREAT at what you seek to do or become. Speak to everyone because the person you ignore could be the KEY to your growth and impact on the planet. Build relationships because relationships will transform your dreams into reality. I network daily, whether at an event, in the line at the grocery store or simply talking to people on the street. Network often!!!

In closing- Each day you awaken and your feet hit the floor, start clapping. Why? It may be the only standing ovation you receive all day. Start the day by giving thanks and then celebrate the gift you are to the planet because that is what you are- a GIFT!!! Never let anyone’s negative opinion of you become your opinion of yourself, and never let anyone tell you what you can’t do- especially if they’ve never done it!!!! Live your life with purpose on purpose and when doubt attempts to creep in, remember my global quote: not impossible/I’M POSSIBLE!!!

Thank you Derrick for being a MOVEMENT not a monument!!!

Dear Little Black Boy

May 18, 2013

AlexhayesI almost didn’t write you because at one point in my life I did not want to be labeled as black. One thing I learned is that blackness is the fulfillment of light and darkness is the absence of light. People say that “the truth shall set you free.” The key to that is you have to have the truth in order to be free.

As you grow know that it is alright to ask, question or challenge any truth that is brought before you. Any truth. When you find out what life really has for you be careful who you share your truth with until you are ready to put your life on the line.

Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. wanted your dream to come true by any means necessary. They were killed before their prophecies were fulfilled.

Know your race and understand that you are always in a race. Stay on track so that when you come out of the starting blocks you can hurdle obstacles and relay information so that the baton of optimism is passed on from generation to generation.

Last week I watched a documentary entitled “Hidden Colors” where it shared information about how people of color contributed to the world that we live in today. One group of people that the video mentioned were the Moors. I think you should research the Moors and see for yourself that you come from greatness. It’s never too late to be great.

I love you and I want the best for you. Reading, writing and arithmetic are three tools that you can use to change any game or industry. If you read when I write, you can count on me to stay in touch. In love I write you to light you.

PS (Please Share) because in all of us is a Little Black Boy.

Sincerely,

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes
