How do you find, develop and share Talent?EvrydayPeoplesBook

(Charles A. Archer) We find talent by being an employer of choice.  Once people are at The THRIVE Network we cultivate learning from orientation throughout their tenure with our organization.  Talent is shared by offering growth opportunities and recognition of performance.

What Habits can make and break you and what habits can help you breakthrough?

(Charles A. Archer) The habit of tenaciousness can propel individuals forward and also exhaust you at the same time. The breakthrough occurs by giving yourself permission to reflect, rejuvenate and refocus.

When you have no Resources what makes you want to turn that dream into something?

(Charles A. Archer) The human spirit finds resources for the things that support our dreams.  The challenge is dreaming big enough and not accepting the limitations of resources.

How do you find the right Individuals to play their parts in your motion picture?

(Charles A. Archer) The right individuals, or actors in motion pictures, are developed.  People grow, develop and support each other differently based on exposure, experiences and explanation. We would like to believe that we are the right one at various times but if the truth is told, we become the right people over time.

What do you do to keep your Vision from perishing?

(Charles A. Archer) I prime.  Priming is the activity of putting oneself into the proper state of mind.  I live in a state of knowing that my life and work matters and adds value daily.

Why do you do what you do and keep Enduring through the rain and pain?

(Charles A. Archer) As the eldest of eight, there are marginal differences being 15+ years with someone. This makes my life and work an example for them as well as others.

When you have the right Talent, Habits, Resources, Individuals, Vision and Endurance your life will change because you will have the 6 Things That Can Make Your Network THRIVE.

Water You Doing To Make a Difference? The Rudy Byfield Story

March 30, 2015

RudyByfield

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes shares insightful perspectives from experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s interview is with Rudy Byfield who is the President of AQUAÇAI USA and leads the company in their giving and sustainability initiatives.

AQUACAI is a natural artesian water from the rainforest of Panama. H2O is the formula for water and after reading this interview you will understand that a great way to give back is to bring H2O (Help 2 Others) in as many ways possible.

I wanted to tell Rudy’s story to share the news of what he does and why he believes we all should give back.

What made you do what you do?

I have always been interested in water as a fundamental tool for life and sustainable development. I wanted to be part of an organization that takes action, cares about its community, its resources, it’s people and most importantly, building a better future today.

Specifically, water can help build a foundation to help eradicate poverty, build upon economic growth and sustainability and make improvements in one’s social well-being. Unfortunately, there are millions of people today that aren’t as fortuitous and don’t have access to these basic amenities that we take for granted, such as water. But with the advancements of our technology and access to natural resources, Aquaçai can help make a difference in changing people’s lives. I want to share our story with the with everyone who can give us an audience, a forward thinking company that produces the most natural quality of water available today located in our very own backyard of La Valdeza de Capira in the Republic of Panama. Aquaçai is bottled in a state of the art water bottling facility that runs on 60% hydroelectric power. Our ability to share Aquaçai directly from our pristine rainforest to locations all over the world is something we are very proud of.

Although I didn’t discover Aquaçai personally, I was asked by a group of owners in Panama and the U.S. to join forces. Together, we planted the seeds and cultivated an idea that became a reality for making change, focusing on well-being, lifestyle and social responsibility.

When and where did you get started?

Three years ago today, I started at Aquaçai, a brand whose goal was to deliver a premium artesian water to discriminating consumers—one that was all-natural, pristine, with zero nitrates, artificial flavors and possessed an unparalleled softness. In essence, water that made you feel good, comprised of taste, quality and commitment to its community.

Through our extensive search, we discovered the ultimate source in Panama- an artesian aquifer deep beneath the Acai Rainforest. And our goal, to make sure we kept it in its natural form, to never lose sight of conserving our beautiful terrain and ensure collectively, that we’re committed and responsive to upholding our natural ecosystem and habitat. Our facilities are run using renewable energy, with 60% coming from hydroelectric power contained in flowing water. In addition, AQUAÇAI is bottled right at the source in 100% recyclable, BPA-free PET plastic. The first human hands to touch the bottle are outside of Panama, when our premium artesian water is shipped to locations all over the world. For this reason, there are zero nitrates and artificial preservatives added, it’s completely untouched and intact in its natural form.

In all honesty, I worked with other brands previously in a distribution company, however, once I discovered the product (Aquaçai), I knew this was a special brand where we could make a difference.

Why do you give back?

We give back because it’s the right thing to do. It is important to come full circle and build a life and business where you help others in return.  If you accumulate and not give back, you are doing a disservice to yourself, to your community and worse, abstaining from building a generation of future leaders for tomorrow; leading by example. Bigger than just water, over the past 7 years, we planted more than 400,000 native trees, flowers, plants and shrubs with the help of the Smithsonian and ANAM (the Panama National Authority of the Environment). Similarly, we’ve supported our local communities by building a bridge to help students cross the stream during annual floods, supported Doctors without Borders by flying medical teams to Panama to vaccinate hundred of children.

We’ve also lent a hand to those in need throughout the world. Just days before Hurricane Sandy in 2012, we had shipped 40 tons of water to the NY/NJ area for our East Coast launch. But after the storm hit, we helped the community by distributing water to disaster victims directly. Additionally, we donated water to relief efforts in Haiti and Japan, and will continue to share the resources we can with those who need it most.

Anything else that you would like to mention?

It is very gratifying for us as a company to make a difference in the lives of others.   I hope our vision and philanthropy in Aquaçai can inspire others to make a difference and help improve people’s lifestyle one bottle at a time.

Now after reading Rudy’s story look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Water You Doing To Make a Difference?”

DERRICK Interview with 2013 New York City Mayoral Candidate Ceceilia Berkowitz

February 11, 2013

CeciliaBerkowitzEncouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Ceceilia Berkowitz who is a 2013 New York City Mayoral Candidate.  Ceceilia Berkowitz is a 34 year old resident of Manhattan, originally from North Jersey. Ceceilia is  running for NYC Mayor as of January 31st, with a good strategy to plan to win the election, and simultaneously improve the politics and functioning of New York.

Ceceilia has significant relevant work experiences, networking connections and knowledge, and relevant educational background. Ceceilia is also in the process of assembling together a diverse and inclusive team of New Yorkers and other interested people.

After becoming good friends with Mayor Bloomberg over the last year and a half, several people that they both knew suggested that Ceceilia should possibly run for Mayor. Ceceilia is interested in meeting with Republican, Democratic, Independent, and other New Yorkers to formulate good democratic political views for my campaign.

After taking several political tests and surveys Ceceilia found that even ideas that were thought of as Republican for years in terms of Finance and Economics perspectives are still considered Democratic, and in the New York area we are likely to have friends interested in same sex marriage, abortion rights, and New Yorkers understand there are many unmarried New Yorkers who are young, working professionals. Therefore in this part of the country it is impossible to be anything else other than a Democrat according to the true political party beliefs and surveys. She thinks it is important to obey the law and respect the laws of the country you are in, so Ceceilia  paid for some legal advice via a campaign attorney before paying for PR or even beginning fundraising activities.

Ceceilia has interviewed with Forbes magazine and the NY Observer newspaper for future articles and reporters or members of the press that would like to interview her please contact Ceceilia by email at ceceilia0502@gmail.com or by phone at 917-923-5760 / 973-204-9754.

D is for Dream. What is your dream and what have you achieved?

My dream is that I work as Mayor of NYC beginning in 2014. I have achieved much success since I was in high school in leadership and teamwork roles. For college, I attended the Wharton School where we were trained in leadership and teamwork in several classes and activities. I have had much success at work through achieving outstanding performance evaluations and contributing to the success of the companies. As a Professor, I help the majority of my students succeed and learn, and go on to much success in their chosen careers. As a social media journalist, my Klout factor is in the high 50s, and I am followed by many including the WOR710 radio outlet in the NY area.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

What encourages me is that I can make a good impact on the City of New York, and have the citizens be grateful and glad that I could help them achieve success and a good life in their favorite big city.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

My resources include my skills in finding good services online, and good taste in choosing people to hire and work with. I am able to recognize talent, and work with people to encourage them to contribute well to our team.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

I began to realize I was ready for this position in March of 2012, when I wrote my good friend Mayor Bloomberg an email and revealed my plans to run for NY Mayor, beginning on January 31, 2013. It was a position that has interested me for a few years, because of my personality type and preferred work interests.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

I think that others should learn about Ray Kelly. He is a very impressive man, with several university degrees, and quite a few good work experiences before becoming Commissioner of the NYPD.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

The team of good people I recruited who want us to achieve success encourage me to continue on, and pursue success.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

I think the key to success is to be goal oriented, to know our goal is attainable, and to continue to move forward in a path toward realizing the goal.

DERRICK Interview with Life Coach and Radio Personality Victor Sosa

October 31, 2012

#1 Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Victor Sosa who is a 14 year radio pro who has spent the last 9 years as a DJ at New York’s #1 rated radio station, Victor is also a Certified Professional Life Coach and Energy Leadership Master Practitioner dedicated to helping people get crystal clear about what they want.  He does this by working with you to clarify your personal or professional goals, develop strategies to achieve them, or learn to do what he struggled with for so long, which is to separate who you are from what you do.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

From the time I was very young, I wanted to be on the radio.  Growing up in New York City and listening to people like the late, great Frankie Crocker was such an inspiration to me.  He was captivating and brought the entertainment and fun everywhere he went.  In cutting my own path through the industry, I’ve gotten to travel to different parts of the country, do everything from being a DJ to running 3 different radio stations and prayerfully, entertain the millions of people who’ve heard my voice over the last 14 years.  Recently, I’ve begun to realize a new dream that I believe bears some similarity to radio.  Being a life coach enables to me to connect with people in a very personal way, just like good radio does.

But coaching goes even deeper because I have a hand in helping people create lasting change in their lives.  I help you step out of the prison of your past, where regrets and guilt reside because they’ve been wreaking havoc on your thoughts and your life for too long already!  As you step into the present, I’m there to help you take the wisdom gained from your past and apply it towards the creation of the life you want and deserve.

I’m still on the air in New York City; I love radio and it will always be a part of me.  But coaching is the most spiritually and emotionally satisfying thing I’ve ever done.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

Every single day (or night, since my current radio job is overnight) that I open my eyes.  I am so grateful and encouraged by the fact that the Good Lord saw fit to give me the opportunity of life!  Life is an opportunity every day in every way; waking up and realizing I’ve been given another opportunity to make the most of it is too big a blessing to take for granted.

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

My life!  Everyplace I’ve been, everything I’ve done, all I’ve seen, heard, learned (and continue to learn daily) make up the kind of resources nobody else can or ever will acquire, because they’re mine.  I’ve been a career obsessed, self absorbed loner concerned only with how best to go about having my way with the world….and am moving more and more each day towards someone who has goals but gets more satisfaction over what the journey offers than the goal itself.  Someone who values the people around me and understands that while we are all unique, we are also all one; to harm others is to harm ourselves.  True love of self isn’t selfish; it’s the thing that enables you to give love to others freely.  I think what I’m really getting at here is that I see my greatest resource as having been on both sides of the coin; I’m on the journey from selfish to selfless.  Because of that, as a coach….well, not just as a coach, but as a human being I can relate to where you’re at right now and where you want to be.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

When I knew I couldn’t keep what I was learning and the changes I was making in my life to myself.  As I mentioned above, I was obsessed with my career.  Radio wasn’t just what I did, it was who I was; there was no separation as I saw it.  Because of that, I was hell bent on “success” as I saw it.  So if I wasn’t where I wanted to be, that equated to failure in my mind, which must mean I was a failure.  There are so many moving parts, people and extenuating circumstances in life, that to put that kind of pressure on yourself is a recipe for disaster.  And a disaster it was.  I was forever unhappy, always feeling “stuck” in one job, eyeing the next one because that would bring success….except when I got that next job, it was the job after that which would truly make me successful.  The need for validation, the self doubt, the assumptions and beliefs I carried that I allowed to limit me left me feeling like a victim.  I felt powerless to keep all these horrible things from happening to me.  I didn’t know it at the time, but the only reason I felt powerless to change my situation was because I was GIVING MY POWER AWAY to those circumstances, beliefs and other people whom I unwittingly allowed to control my life.

I lived that way for the majority of my radio career, until a few years ago when my mom passed away and the relationship I was in ended within a couple of months of each other.  At that point, I had major decisions to make about my life and where it was headed.  When I made the decision to stop trying to live life without the direction and guidance of God, He began turning things around immediately.  I immersed myself in positive books, speakers and other materials.  I decided to try to adopt some of the beliefs and techniques I was reading about, and saw even more things change in my life for the better.  As my energy shifted from negative to positive, I knew I couldn’t remain silent.  In the radio industry alone, I knew tons of people who were at least as miserable as I had been.  Once I understood that things could change, I was overwhelmed with the desire to share that knowledge with everyone!  Your life doesn’t have to remain the same if that’s not what you want.  That’s when I knew I was ready to find an avenue to get that message out, and training to become a coach was the next natural step.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

Wow.  I could run off a dozen gurus and “experts” of the coaching game, and they’re all great.  But I’d be honored if you spent some time learning about my friend Kesha Monk.

Kesha is one of my radio mentors, and a supremely talented personality who’s entertained millions of people in LA, Chicago and New York.  For reasons I don’t know and probably wouldn’t understand, she hasn’t found another radio gig since her last one came to an end in 2008, and more than that, she’s currently battling stage 4 colon cancer.  The reason I believe you’d benefit from spending time with Kesha is because of the attitude and spirit she maintains in spite of the challenge in front of her now.  She’s created a website to document the ups and downs of her fight against cancer, and when you visit it, you’ll see why she is such a dynamic person and radio personality.  The best radio DJ’s aren’t playing a role; they establish meaningful connections with people by baring a part of their soul on a daily basis.  Kesha’s done that on the air her entire career and she’s doing it now on her website.  You don’t just feel like you know Kesha Monk; you DO know Kesha Monk.  And she’s worth the time it takes to get to know her.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

You know, I looked at that question and realized that a few years ago, the answer would’ve been, “I don’t want to continue.”  That was kinda deep.  I needed a minute to take that in and realize how lucky and grateful I am before I could move on and actually answer you!

Actually, those sentences have the answer within them.  I know what it’s like to not want to continue for another hour, let alone another day.  And I know just how quickly it can all turn around.  When things don’t look good, I understand that they are where they are for a reason, and it doesn’t matter if I know why or not.  I know that when I place my trust in God, He’ll create the situation and opportunity that leaves me in perfect position to do my part to maneuver things into my favor.  He’s done it once, He’ll do it again, and He’ll never stop doing it.  But I know He won’t do it until He knows I’m ready for that opportunity.  I know if I remain faithful and move forward, a door WILL open.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

Most people who tell you that you can’t are people who won’t.

Funny thing is that sometimes they actually mean well; they don’t want to see you hurt or see you fail.  But even if they think they’re doing you a favor, don’t place yourself in the proverbial box just because they’ve never come out of theirs.

Is there anything that we did not touch on that you would like to inspire others with?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.  (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I said it earlier, but it bears repeating; I felt powerless to change my situation for years but the truth was that I had been giving my power away because I believed I had none.  Once I understood that I did have the power to change my life and I exercised that power, things turned on a dime.  The old Victor passed away, and a new one arrived!  Things can change!  If I could do it, then you can do it!  So if you feel like a victim; like bad things are always happening to you and that you’re trapped by the circumstances of your situation, let me ask you this: how much longer are you willing to go on with things as they are?

DERRICK Interview with Artist Liz Marotti

October 10, 2012

Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes gives a DERRICK Interview by asking 7 questions through each letter of his first name to give you an insightful perspective from other experts, entrepreneurs, celebrities and up and coming super stars.

Today’s DERRICK Interview is with Liz Marotti a New York Artist  that is trying to make it.  Liz creates because if she didn’t life would be meaningless. Her hope is to open peoples eyes to their own extreme emotions. Liz calls her art an emotional overload. Painting for her is a religious experience. This experience allows her to create a world that did not exist 5 minutes ago.

D is for Dream. What is your dream, goals or what have you achieved?

I want to be a world famous artist, who’s message encourages women to love themselves and to drop the emotional baggage that holds them back from the happiness that is rightfully theirs.

E is for Encourage. What encourages you?

People do. I sell my art over the internet, and in person at Union Square Park. When I am selling my work out doors, one of the things that makes me happy is when people who can not really afford my work, are so inspired by it that they look in the bottoms of their pockets for change, just so they can have a piece of what I do.

Then the letters that people send me. I once had one woman who was a Breast Cancer Survivor write to me, she said that she would love to see me create a breast Cancer Awareness painting. So I asked her to describe to me how it made her feel. She told me about her missing breast, how she felt like less of a woman because of it. That she knew her husband still loved her, but she did not feel as beautiful. So I created a painting called “War Scars” It was a woman with one breast on her chest and a scar in place of her other breast, with one hand extended to the heavens. My plan for that painting was, you can take my breast, but i will fight to defend what I have left. She loved it so much she immediately sent me the money for it, and I made a time lapse video of it on YouTube, and used my friend Timothy Dark’s music as the sound track and she even went on Itunes and purchased the song. I was so happy to have reached her like that. Those are the things that encourage me :)

R is for Resource. What resources do you bring to the table that makes you unique or stand out?

Well, I guess my technique. My brush strokes hold all of the emotions that people see in my work. I am able to create movement in my work.
I love to learn, so I taught myself film editing, I am not the best at it because I am self taught. But it does come in handy. Then I am an artist that loves to collaborate with other artists, and I love to create circumstances where I can bring my friends along with me. I am fortunate enough to know some of the best talent in NYC. So when I am offered a space to do a gallery show, I not only bring my art work, but I bring my friends who are dancers and singers to preform for the show. So my shows are never just paintings and cheap wine. They are paintings, cheap wine, and entertainment. Too many of us forget that we are simply here to help one another and if I could give other artists a stage, I will.

R is for Ready. When did you realize you were ready for what you are doing now?

When I was working for $10 an hour at a tile store, and I was Bored. I knew there had to be something better than this. So I Googled how to sell art in NYC. Found out what I needed to do to become a street artist legally. Quit my job, moved back home with my parents, and the rest is history.

I is for Individual. Name at least one person that you know that you feel others should learn about and why?

I know so many people that others should learn about. Melissa Otero is one of my best friends, she is an amazing writer and vocalist. She has worked very hard to achieve her dreams and her music relates to people on a deep level. She is making a difference by really creating art and maintaining a great relationship with her audience. Plus she bought my art when she really could not afford it, and she supports other artists and I love her for it! Choomasi he is another amazing vocalist and writer. His voice is incredible, and he is beyond humble. That is what makes him so awesome, is he is awesome and doesn’t act like it. He is kind to all his fans and friends.

C is for Continue. When you fail, things look bleak or are not optimistic what makes you want to continue?

My Fans and Friends. They are the only reason I am able to create the way I do. It is with their support that I am able to do anything. I know I was called to do what I do. There is no other reason. No one would take the vow of poverty I took, if there wasn’t something bigger pushing me forward.

K is for Key. What keys to success can you leave for upcoming entrepreneurs and leaders?

KINDNESS. Loving people and the people you are working for. Share your dreams with the world and the world will show you your destiny.
LET PEOPLE KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!! People will love you, people will support you as long as they know you exist. SPIRITUALITY. It doesn’t matter what kind, as long as you believe there is something bigger than yourself, otherwise when things get dark, there is nothing to hold on too.

Vincent Morgan is  a Public Servant from Harlem, New York and also a future Candidate for the New York City Council position that represents Harlem where they have The Schomburg CenterApollo Theatre and Sylvia’s Restaurant. Youth are looking for people to follow and I’m Encouraged that each time I talk to youth they are open for dialogue when they are approached the right way. When have to invest in our generations starting at a young age.

What Resource do you have that makes you stand out or unique?

We have a lot of resources in our community neighborhoods that we don’t use. The community center in the middle of Harlem is not being used fully used. Programs are under utilized. I realize that we should maximize more of what we already have as a starting  point and bring it up to capacity and then start looking at deficits and other things that are needed.

When did you know you were Ready for what you are doing now?

Politics in this country is broken. I see people that talk  a good game but don’t put in the work to make things happen in the community. We need elected officials that have real world experience in life and business. We could bring in teachers and educators that know our needs to help fix our education problems. I want to be someone that changes the game

Can you name one Individual that we all should learn more about and why?

People should learn more about themselves.  Most people don’t know who they are and who they can become. You can read a million books on others but if you don’t use it to better yourself no difference will be made.

When things are not optimistic what makes you want to Continue?

I have two small children and it is hard not to give up and make sure they have the little things like milk to the bigger things of seeing that they are in an environment that is safe so they will be proud of who they are and where they come from. My children remind me everyday about the power if God.

What Keys to success can you leave for others?

Key #1.  Figure out who you are, what inspires you, what  your skill set  is. Key #2. Figure out how you can use your skill set so that you can be closer to your dream. Key# 3. Don’t give up, even when the first step doesn’t work out for you.
